2. What is City Housing Hamilton? (People & Programs)


City Housing Hamilton (CHH) is a government program that works to enhance the quality of life
for tenants by providing safe, well maintained, and affordable housing, while ensuring there are
additional programs and supports through various partnerships with community agencies. Most
housing is available on a rent-geared-to-income basis, as well as some housing units provided at
market rent.

3. What 5 Dental health programs (People & Programs) does the city of Hamilton have to
help citizens?
Dental Health Bus: The city provides free emergency dental service for adults with low income
and no dental coverage with a dental health bus. It accepts patients on a first come first served
basis, and is open from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

Downtown Dental Clinic: Like the Dental Health Bus, the Downtown Dental Clinic provides
free emergency dental service for adult with low income and no dental coverage. It is located on
110 King Street West and is open Monday – Friday 8:30am – noon, and 1pm – 4:30pm.

Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program: The OSDCP provides free dental care for eligible seniors.
It is for people aged 65 and over who do not have dental benefits and a low income.
Preventative Dental Clinics: Preventative Dental Clinics provide free dental care and dental
assessments for residents ages 18 or lower with low income.

Healthy Smiles Ontario: Healthy Smiles Ontario pays the cost of dental services for children and
youth under 18 years old with low income.

4. How much does it cost to ride the HSR (Home & Neighbourhood)?
If paying with cash for a single ride, the fare is $3.25.

5. What is an HSR PRESTO card (Home & Neighbourhood)?


The Presto card is a cheaper alternative to the single ride cash fare. You can purchase a monthly
pass, yearly pass, or a single ride pass. If you ride more than 17 times a month, the monthly pass
is recommended. The prices are:
Youth (13-19) - $94.60
Adult - $114.40
Senior (65+)- $38.50

Another option is the single ride pass, where you pay each time you ride the bus. Tickets of the
same price can also be purchased through the E-Tickets app and scanned through a QR code.
The prices are:
Youth - $2.15
Adult - $2.60
Senior $2.15

After 8 presto uses of the single ride pass in the same week, riders are not charged for additional
trips. People above 80 can receive a free golden age pass that allows them to ride without charge.
Children 5 or under are let on for free if travelling with a paying customer. Eligible students may
receive a free presto card that allows unlimited travel during the eligibility period. Children ride
free with a presto card until April 30, 2023.
6. What must Hamiltonians do when they want to dispose of bulk items and furniture
(Home & Neighbourhood)?
The city picks up furniture and other bulk items every week that are too big to fit into a garbage
bag or can. You can call 905-546-2489 or submit an online request to schedule a bulk pick-up.
You must put your items on the curb where they are easily accessible. A maximum of 4 items
may be picked up, and items over 90 kg will not be taken.

The City of Hamilton encourages street performing to help develop the local music community.

music presentation.
The city has several programs and services to support the diverse local economy. These include:

9. What is the Hamilton Bike Share Program (Home & Neighbourhood)?


The Hamilton Bike Share Program is an organization that allows users to rent bikes from the
city. There are over 800 smart bikes across over 25 square kilometres of Hamilton. You can pay
as you go for 15 cents/minute, purchase a monthly plan for $20, or a seasonal supporter plan (6
months) for $100.

A Building Permit legally authorizes you to start construction of a building project in accordance

You do not need a building permit to construct a fence unless you are installing a swimming pool

card.
