I.

Purpose
Dropout rates has been a nationwide problem of the Department of Education,
Despite of the precedent effort and multiple programs that are implemented to the
school there are still a remarkable increase of dropout rates in the past three years.
Therefore, to address the issue, the study aimed to identify the dropout rates
status, identify the common reasons of their dropping out, establish a procedure to
institutionalize the implementation of ADM and reduce the dropout rates.
I. Design / Methodology/ Approach/Ethical Issues
The study utilized the descriptive research method following a quantitative
research approach. The data used was based on the performance indicator of the
school and administering interview among the respondents. The statistical tool
used in the study were frequency and ranking. Permit to conduct the study was
sent to the office of the principal.
II. Findings / Results
It is gleaned from the data gathered that the dropout rate was increasing
from
.83% in SY 2016-2017, 1.52 % in SY 2017-2018 and 1.93% in SY 2018-2019.
Based from the interview conducted in the respondents, the following reasons were
raised. Financial problem, consistent conflict of parents, broken family, bullying,
laziness, employment, transfer of location and sickness, consecutively. The flexible
learning options offered to the respondents were one on one interview to identify
the respondent’s profile, health profile, academic profile and learning style.
Consistent monitoring of performance and attendance will be continued throughout
the school year. The said flexible learning options are considered as the School
Initiative Intervention (SII) to lessen the dropout rate and to prepare the school for
the possible offering of Alternative Delivery Mode in Balas Buco Sta. Maria National
High School.
III. Research Limitation
The research study was limited to the students who has the history of drop out
and are currently enrolled in the SY 2019-2020.
IV. Implications
The study has an implication to the school, students, parents and to the
community. To reduce the drop out rate means increase in the promotion rate,
students will be promoted, parents will lessen their expenses and additional
responsible citizen will be added in the community.
V. Originality/Value
The result of the study is valuable to address one of the priority improvement
areas and to achieve an intermediate outcome that every learner should be in
school and learning center. It is significant for the students to avoid the risk of
dropping out.

Drop Out

Based from the table and graph above and gleaned from the data gathered
from the performance indicator, the dropout rate was increasing from.83% in SY 2016-
2017, 1.52 % in SY 2017-2018 and 1.93% in SY 2018-2019.

2. Common Reasons of Drop Out

Table 3
Reasons Frequency Percentage Rank
Broken Family 3 10.34% 3.5
Bullying 3 10.34% 3.5
Consistent Conflict of Parents 5 17.24% 2
Employment 2 6.89% 5.5
Financial Problem 7 24.13% 1
Laziness 2 6.89% 5.5
Transfer of Location 1 2.9% 7.5
Sickness 1 2.9% 7.5

According to the result of the one on one interview among the respondents,
financial problem ranked 1 as the common reason of drop out with 24.13%, consistent
conflict of parents ranked 2 with 17.24% and broken family and bullying ranked 3,5
with 10.34%. Both employment and laziness ranked 5.5 with 6.89% while both transfer
of location and sickness ranked 7.5 with the percentage of 2.9%. The findings revealed
that the top 3 common reasons were family related issues while the least common
reasons were related to unavoidable circumstances.

3. Flexible Learning Options

The flexible learning options offered to the respondents were one on one
interview to identify the respondent’s profile, health profile, academic profile and
learning style. Consistent monitoring of performance and attendance will be continued
throughout the school year. The said flexible learning options are considered as the
School Initiative Intervention (SII) to lessen the dropout rate and to prepare the school
for the possible offering of Alternative Delivery Mode in Balas Buco Sta. Maria National
High School.

VII. CONCLUSION and RECOMMENDATION

1. From the given findings, it is concluded that drop out rate despite of the
implementation of multiple programs and interventions, is still increasing
therefore it is recommended that the flexible learning options must continue and
be open for possible innovations.
2. The common reasons raised in the study were financial and family related issue
therefore, it is recommended that the flexible learning options must focused on
lifting up the status of the family by communicating them properly and by
offering them literacy program for proper parenting. Financial problem can be
address by looking for partnership with outside stakeholders who are willing to
support the student.
3. Flexible learning options are still limited in the study since it is being
implemented for a short period of time therefore, it is recommended to continue
the program and to be able to seek transformation and promotion among the
student’s status. The success of the study can lead to pursue the possible
offering of Alternative Delivery Mode and achieved the pursue the goal of Drop
Out Reduction Program.
