IV. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Good morning class!

Activities
1.PRAYER
Please stand up and let us pray. (Please bow our head and feel the presence
of our Almighty God. In the name of the Father, the son, ….)
(Our Heavenly Father thank you for this day, for all the blessings that
we received. Help us every day and guide us for our daily lives.
In Jesus name we pray, AMEN!)

2.Checking of Attendance
Before you seat, kindly pick up some piece of papers, candy wraps, …

5. (8−3 x)(8+ 3 x ) 64−9 x

C. Establishing a Motive Questions

purpose for the a. How do you find each product?
lesson Expected answer: (Apply the mathematical concepts or
principles previously learned)
b. In finding each product what mathematical concepts or
principles did you apply?
Expected answer: (Special products, Distributive Property of
Multiplication and FOIL…)
c. How would you describe the products obtained? Are the
products polynomial? If YES, what common characteristics do
these polynomials have?
Expected answer: (Each product is a polynomial. Each contain
one variable with 2 as the highest exponent)

D. Presenting
examples/instances Activity 2: Another kind of Equation:
of the new lesson

Below are different equations. Use these equations to answer the

questions that follow:

2
x −5 x+ 3=0 8 k −3=0 6 p−q=10 2
r =144
2 s +3 t=−7 2
9 r −25=0
2
t −7 t+ 6=0
2
4 m −4 m+1=0

1.Which of the given equations are linear?

2. How do you describe linear equations?
3.Which of the given equations are not linear? Why?
4.How are these equations different from those which are linear?
5. What common characteristics do these equations have?

Expected Answers:

Linear Equations Quadratic Equations

2 s +3 t =−7 2
x −5 x+ 3=0
8 k −3=0 2
9 r −25=0
6 p−q=10 t 2−7 t+ 6=0
2
r =144
4 m2−4 m+1=0

Linear Equations has 1 as its exponent of the variable while

Quadratic Equation has 2 as its highest exponent of the
variable, hence the degree of each mathematical sentence is 2.
Both Linear Equations and Quadratic Equations contain
variables

2
Discussion:
Quadratic Equation
The name Quadratic comes from "quad" meaning square, because
the variable gets squared (like x 2 )
An equation where the highest exponent of the variable is 2.
(Equation of Degree 2)
Degree of an Equation is determined through the highest exponent
variable in an equation

Examples: Write a Quadratic Equation in Standard Form.

1. s ( s +2 )=−1
Expected Answer:
2
s +2 s=−1  using Distributive Property
s +2 s +1=−1+1 using Addition Property of equality
2

2
s +2 s +1=0  Standard form of Quadratic Equation
2. (x +7)( x+ 3)=0
Expected Answer:
FOIL Method ( First ,Outside , Inside∧Last )
x 2+ 3 x +7 x +21=0
2
x + 10 x +21=0  Standard Form of Quadratic

E. Discussing new The teacher discusses the definition and other concepts of Quadratic
concepts and Equation.
practicing new Quadratic Equation
skills  The standard form is written as:
ax +bx +c=0 ; where a, b, and c are real numbers and a ≠ 0.
2

 In the equation, ax 2 is the quadratic term

bx is the linear term
c is the constant term

Examples 1: Identify the values of a, b, and c in the quadratic equation

2
2 x +5 x−3=0
Expected Answer: a=2 , b=5 ;c=−3
Example 2: Write quadratic equation 3 x (x−2)=10 in standard form,
then identify the values of a, b, and c.
Expected Answer: 3 x 2−6 x=10  using distributive property
3 x 2−6 x−10=10−10
3 x 2−6 x−10=0
a=3 , b=−6 , c=−10
Example 3: Write quadratic equation ( 2 x+5 )( x−1 )=−6 in standard
form, then identify the values of a, b, and c.
Expected Answer: 2 x2 −2 x +5 x−5=−6  using FOIL method
2
2 x +3 x−5+6=−6 +6  simplify
2
2 x +3 x +1=0
a=2 , b=3 , c=1

Incomplete forms of Quadratic Equation:

1) a x 2 +c=0 ; that is if b=0
Example: Identify the values of a, b, and c in the quadratic
equation x 2+ 5=0
Expected answer: a=1 , b=0 , c=5

2) ax 2 +bx=0 ; that is ifc=0

Example: Identify the values of a, b, and c in the quadratic

3
equation 2 x2 +8 x=0
Expected answer: a=2 , b=8 ,c =0

Example: Identify the values of a, b, and c in the quadratic
equation 2 x2 =0
Expected answer: a=2 , b=0 ,c =0
In quadratic equation, b and c can be equal to 0 but a≠ 0.:
