Chemical Spill Emergency Procedure:

2.1 Notification:

 Alert the nearest co-worker and evacuate the immediate area.


 If possible, contain the spill by using the appropriate spill kit and personal protective
equipment (PPE).
 Notify the supervisor and team leader.

2.2 Evacuation:

 All employees in the immediate area must evacuate to a safe area.


 Do not attempt to clean up the spill unless you have been trained to do so and have the
appropriate PPE.
 Assist any injured or disabled co-workers if possible.

2.3 Containment:

 If possible, contain the spill by using the appropriate spill kit and PPE.
 Do not attempt to contain the spill if you are not trained to do so or do not have the
appropriate PPE.
 Use absorbent materials to contain the spill and prevent it from spreading.

2.4 Clean-up:

 Only trained personnel with the appropriate PPE should attempt to clean up a chemical spill.
 Follow the instructions of trained personal and the supervisor.
 Properly dispose of any contaminated materials according to the hazardous waste disposal
regulations.

2.5 Accountability:

 Supervisors must account for all employees and visitors once they have evacuated to a safe
area.
 Report any injuries or health concerns related to the spill to the supervisor and team leader.
 Do not re-enter the affected area until it has been declared safe by the emergency response
team.
