The first night of Shaww¡l is one of the blessed nights. Many narrations have referred to the great merits
and rewards of those who spend this night, as a whole, with acts of worship. Moreover, some narrations have
mentioned that this night is not less blessed than the Qadr Night. The devotional acts at this night are as
follows:
First: It is recommended to bathe oneself at sunset.
Second: It is recommended to spend the whole night with offering prayers, supplicating, imploring for
forgiveness, and staying at mosques.
Third: It is recommended to say the following doxology after the obligatory Maghrib Prayer, `Ish¡' Prayer,
Fajr Prayer, and the `«d al-Fi§r Prayer:

Allah is Great. all¡hu akbaru ‫ﺮ‬‫ﺍﻛﹾﺒ‬ ‫ﺍﻟﻠﱠﻪ‬

All praise be to Allah for He has
shown us the Right Path. al¦amdu lill¡hi `al¡ m¡ had¡n¡ ‫ﺍﻧﹶﺎ‬‫ﺪ‬‫ﺎ ﻫ‬‫ﻠﹶﻰٰ ﻣ‬‫ ﻋ‬‫ﻠﱠﻪ‬‫ ﻟ‬‫ﺪ‬‫ﻤ‬‫ﺍﻟﹾﺤ‬
All thanks be to Him for that
which He has conferred upon us.
wa lah£ alshshukru `al¡ m¡
awl¡n¡ ‫ﻻﻧﹶﺎ‬‫ﺍﻭ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻠﹶﻰٰ ﻣ‬‫ ﻋ‬‫ ﭐﻟﺸﱡﻜﹾﺮ‬‫ﻟﹶﻪ‬‫ﻭ‬
Fourth: After accomplishing the Maghrib obligatory and supererogatory prayers, it is recommended to raise
the hands towards the sky and say the following:

O Lord of favor and bounty! y¡ dh¡ almanni wal§§awli ‫ﻝﹺ‬‫ﭐﻟﻄﱠﻮ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﻦ‬‫ﺎ ﺫﹶﺍ ﭐﻟﹾﻤ‬‫ﻳ‬
O Lord of magnanimity! y¡ dh¡ alj£di ‫ﻮﺩ‬‫ﺎ ﺫﹶﺍ ﭐﻟﹾﺠ‬‫ﻳ‬
O He Who has chosen
Mu¦ammad and granted him
victory!
y¡ mu¥§afiya mu¦ammadin wa

Then, it is recommended to prostrate oneself and repeat the following statement one hundred times:

I turn repentant unto Allah. at£bu il¡ all¡hi ‫ ﺇﹺﻟﹶﻰٰ ﭐﻟﻠﱠﻪ‬‫ﺍﺗﹸﻮﺏ‬

Then, one may pray Almighty Allah for all needs required, for they shall be granted, by Almighty Allah’s
permission.
According to the narration mentioned by Shaykh al-±£s¢, it is recommended to prostrate after the Maghrib
and `Ish¡' Prayers and then say the following supplicatory prayer:

O Lord of power! y¡ dh¡ al¦awli ‫ﻝﹺ‬‫ﻮ‬‫ﺎ ﺫﹶﺍ ﭐﻟﹾﺤ‬‫ﻳ‬

O Lord of bounty! y¡ dh¡ al§§awli ‫ﻝﹺ‬‫ﺎ ﺫﹶﺍ ﭐﻟﻄﱠﻮ‬‫ﻳ‬
O He Who has chosen
Mu¦ammad and granted him

Then, one may repeat the following one hundred times:

I turn repentant unto Allah. at£bu il¡ all¡hi ‫ ﺇﹺﻟﹶﻰٰ ﭐﻟﻠﱠﻪ‬‫ﺍﺗﹸﻮﺏ‬

Fifth: It is recommended to visit the holy tomb of Imam al-°usayn (`a), for this act brings about a great
reward. In the coming chapter of Ziy¡r¡t, the form of Ziy¡rah that is dedicated to this night will be cited.
Sixth: It is recommended to repeat the following supplicatory prayer ten times. It has been already cited
within the devotional acts at Friday nights:

O He Who is ever-Favorer on the

Seventh: It is recommended to offer the ten unit prayer which has been mentioned within the devotional
acts of the last night of Rama¤¡n.
Eighth: It is recommended to offer a two unit prayer reciting, in the first unit, S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah once and
repeating S£rah al-Taw¦¢d one thousand times and reciting, in the second unit, S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah once and
S£rah al-Taw¦¢d once only. After accomplishment, it is recommended to prostrate and say the following:

I turn repentant unto Allah. at£bu il¡ all¡hi ‫ ﺇﹺﻟﹶﻰٰ ﭐﻟﻠﱠﻪ‬‫ﺍﺗﹸﻮﺏ‬

After that, the following supplicatory prayer should be said:

Mu¦ammad and his Household. ¥alli `al¡ mu¦ammadin wa ¡lih¢ ‫ﻪ‬‫ﺁﻟ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﺪ‬‫ﻤ‬‫ﺤ‬‫ﻠﹶﻰٰ ﻣ‬‫ﺻﹶﻞﱢ ﻋ‬
Then, one may pray for the granting of one’s personal needs.
It is reported that when Imam `Al¢ Am¢r al-Mu'min¢n (`a) used to offer this prayer, he would say, “I swear
by Him Who grasps my soul, Almighty Allah shall definitely respond to whoever offers this prayer and then
prays Him for granting his needs, and Almighty Allah shall forgive him even if his sins would be as much as the
pebbles in deserts.”
According to another narration, S£rah al-Taw¦¢d is repeated one hundred times, not one thousand. Yet, this
narration has mentioned that this prayer is offered after the Maghrib obligatory and supererogatory prayers.
Having mentioned this prayer, Shaykh al-±£s¢ and Sayyid Ibn ±¡w£s recorded that the following supplicatory
prayer should be said after the prayer:

O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!
O Beneficent! O Allah!
O Merciful! O Allah!
O Sovereign! O Allah!
O Most Holy! O Allah!
O Peace! O Allah!
O Giver of security! O Allah!
O All-prevailing! O Allah!
O Almighty! O Allah!
O Omnipotent! O Allah!
O All-great! O Allah!
O Creator! O Allah!
O Inventor! O Allah!

ٰ‫ﻠﹶﻰ‬‫ ﻋ‬‫ ﺗﹸﺼﹶﻠﱢﻲ‬‫ﺍﻥ‬ ‫ﺎﻟﹸﻚ‬‫ﺍﺳ‬
‫ﺪ‬‫ﻤ‬‫ﺤ‬‫ﺁﻝﹺ ﻣ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﺪ‬‫ﻤ‬‫ﺤ‬‫ﻣ‬
mu¦ammadin wa ¡li mu¦ammadin
wa tamunna `alayya biri¤¡ka ‫ ﺑﹺﺮﹺﺿﹶﺎﻙ‬‫ﻠﹶﻲ‬‫ ﻋ‬‫ﻦ‬‫ﺗﹶﻤ‬‫ﻭ‬

grant me amnesty through Your
munificence,
and expand Your lawful, good
sustenance to me
from whence I expect and from
whence I do not,
for I am Your servant, I have no
one else other than You,
and there is no one to whom I
turn to other than You!
O Most Merciful of the Merciful!
Only that which Allah wills takes
place.
There is no power except in
Allah, the High, the Great.
One may then prostrate oneself and say the following:

Sacred House,

wa ta¥fa¦a l¢ `an aldhdhun£bi

‫ﻦﹺ ﭐﻟﺬﱡﻧﹸﻮﺏﹺ‬‫ﻲ ﻋ‬‫ ﻟ‬‫ﺗﹶﺼﹾﻔﹶﺢ‬‫ﻭ‬
to overlook my grand sins,
‫ﻈﹶﺎﻡﹺ‬‫ﭐﻟﹾﻌ‬

to demonstrate, O Lord, before

wa tastakhrija l¢ y¡ rabbi
‫ ﻛﹸﻨﹸﻮﺯﹶﻙ‬‫ﺏ‬‫ﺎ ﺭ‬‫ﻲ ﻳ‬‫ ﻟ‬‫ﺘﹶﺨﹾﺮﹺﺝ‬‫ﺗﹶﺴ‬‫ﻭ‬
me Your treasures, O All-
‫ﻤٰﻦ‬‫ﺣ‬‫ﺎ ﺭ‬‫ﻳ‬
kun£zaka y¡ ra¦m¡nu
beneficent!

Ninth: It is recommended to offer a prayer of fourteen units and to recite S£rah al-F¡ti¦ah once, ªyah al-
Kurs¢ once, and S£rah al-Taw¦¢d three times at each unit. The reward of offering each unit of this prayer is as
same as the reward of forty-year worship as well as the reward of each and every one who has observed
fasting and offered prayers in this month.
Tenth: In Mi¥b¡¦ al-Mutahajjid , Shaykh al-±£s¢ says: At the last hour of this night, you may bathe yourself
and sit in your prayer-place until dawn.
