Chapter 1
Introduction
Shoe polish is also known as boot polish is a waxy paste, cream, or liquid
used to polish, shine, and waterproof leather shoes or boots to extend their life and
restore their beauty. Shoe polishes come in a variety of textures, ranging from liquids
to hard waxes. Most shoe polishes are developed using solvents, waxes, and
colorants. There are three forms of shoe polish: wax, cream-emulsion, and liquid.
Each is made up of a different combination of waxes, solvents, and dyes, yet they are
all made up of waxes, solvents, and dyes. Many types of shoe polish became
available in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, but they were rarely referred to as
shoe polish or boot polish. Instead, they were normally pertained to as black,
A rag, cloth, brush, or bare fingers are used to apply the shoe polish on the shoe.
Shoe polish is not a cleaning product; it is intended for shoes that are clean and dry.
A vigorous rubbing motion to evenly put the polish on the boot, followed by buffing
with a clean dry cloth or brush, usually yields satisfactory results. Spit-polishing or

bull-polishing is another procedure that involves gently rubbing polish into the
shine or bull, which is highly prized in military organizations. Despite its name,
saliva is less typically used as a polish vehicle or diluent than water. Carnauba wax
polishes can be used as a protective covering to extend the life and appearance of a
leather shoe. Pre-soaked shoe polish can be purchased in a firm sponge that can be
used to buff leather without the need to apply any additional polish to the leather or
the sponge. This is normally referred to as an applicator. Because shoe polish is such

and baby oil can all be used to manufacture a shoe polish because they all contain an
oil that can help the shoes shine. The inside of banana peelings has a slimy texture.
It has a watery and oily substance that allows the shoes to shine. It's also high
in potassium, which is beneficial to leather. The term "baby oil" comes from the
word "oil." It's noted for its slick texture and gleaming appearance, which is why it
shines the shoe. When the leaves of the ipil-ipil tree are pounded, an extract is
obtained. And that extract aids in the gleaming and preservation of the shoes' quality.
The study's purpose was to develop a low-cost, high-quality shoe polish that could

leather shoes with these shoe polishes; the prepared shoe polish had a very good

three days of use. As a result, the created shoe polish meets the quality requirements

The researchers aim to conduct this study to know the effetiveness of Ipil -
ipil resin and banana peel as an option to shoe polishing and easier to use as polish.
1. What are the natural components of ipil ipil and banana that can be used in
this study?
2. What would be the chemical factors that will help the researchers do this
study?
3. How effective is this shoe polish that can be made of banana peel and ipil-ipil
resin compared to the commercial shoe polish that we buy in the market?
a. Shine
b. Odor
c. Value
d. Smoothness
4. Is this study can help to reuse some banana peel and ipil-ipil resin?

The study can help and give the people knowledge about how can banana
peel and ipil ipil be used as shoe polish and can be a substitute to the one that they
use. Is this study can help to lessen the waste that is banana peel and ipil ipil?
This study hopes to know that banana pell and ipil ipil can be used as
alternative shoe polish that can be a big help to people that have a problem with their
shoe using shoe polishes they have. The study could be the importance of the
following:
● Researchers, the given study will help to know about banana peel and ipil
● Readers, this study will give the readers knowledge about shoe polish that is
made of banana peel and ipil ipil as alternatives to the shoe polish that is
always used.

● Teachers, the given study would give them some knowledge about how to
make a shoe polish from the things that we think cannot be used as a polish
● Future Researchers, the idea presented may be used as reference data for
the new researchers or in testing the validity of the other related studies. It
will also serve as the cross-reference that will give them background or an
overview of banana peel and ipil ipil that can be made as shoe polish.
This study focuses only on how to make a shoe polish made up of ipil ipil
resin and banana peel and the factors that will be affected by this research.

Shoe Polish is a consumer product that shines, waterproofs, and restores the
appearance of leather shoes and boots, extending the life of the footwear. Dubbin, a
waxy substance, has been used to soften and protect leather since the Middle Ages;
however, it does not give luster. Natural wax, oil, soda ash, and tallow were used to
make it. In the eighteenth century, when leather with a high natural veneer became
more fashionable, a high glossy finish became more significant, especially on shoes
and boots. To achieve this shine, a variety of handmade polishes were utilized,
Many types of shoe polish became available in the nineteenth century, but
they were rarely referred to as shoe polish or boot polish. Instead, they were dubbed

tallow, an animal by-product, was utilized to make a primitive sort of shoe polish.
