CELLULAR

CHARACTERISTICS
OF THE FIVE
KINGDOMS
Kingdom is the highest
rank used in the biological
taxonomy of all

organisms.
Whitaker proposed that
organisms should be
broadly divided into
kingdoms, based on certain
characters like the
structure of the cell, mode
of nutrition, the source of
nutrition, interrelationship,
body organization, and
reproduction.
Five Kingdoms
Kingdom Plantae
Kingdom Fungi
Kingdom Animalia
Kingdom Protista
Kingdom Monera
KINGDOM
PLANTAE
KINGDOM PLANTAE
Trees, plants and other species of
vegetation make up part of the
Plantae kingdom - one of the
oldest, and characterised by its
immobile, multicellular and
eukaryotic nature. These
autotrophic things, whose cells
contain cellulose and chlorophyll
are essential for life on Earth
since they release oxygen
through photosynthesis. As
regards their method of
reproduction, this may be either
sexual or asexual.
Characteristic Features
of Kingdom Plantae
These living organisms are
made of eukaryotic cells andx
are mulcticellular. The cells
have a cell wall which is made
of cellulose. These are
autotrophic and synthesize
food by photosynthesis due to
the presence of chloroplasts.
Features of Plantae
They have special organelles called
chloroplast
They are autotrophic
Reproduction can be asexual and
sexual
They show alternation of generation
