6. Mechanical properties
6.1 Tensile strength and yield point or proof stress
The tube, or steel sheet or the steel strip used for manufacture of tube shall be tested un
accordance with 9.2.3, and their tensile strength, yield point or proof stress, and tensile
strength in weld zone shall conform to table 3. The tensile strength in weld is applied to
automatic arc welded steel tubes. However, the test of tensile strength in the weld may be
omitted upon approval of the purchaser.
6.2 Tensile test piece and elongation
The tube, or steel sheet and steel strip used for manufacture of tube shall be tested
accordance with 9.2.3, and the applied tensile test piece and the minimum value of elongation
for each production method of tubes and applicable outside diameter shall be as given in
table 4. However, No. 5 test piece may be applied to the tubes of 200 mm or greater outside
diameter and may be applied to those of other outside diameters if approved by the
purchaser. For the tensile test of tubes of wall thickness under 8 mm performed using No.12
or No.5 test piece, the minimum of value elongation shall be obtained by reducing 1.5 mm
per 1 mm decrease in wall thickness from the elongation value in table 4 and rounding off to
the whole number according to Rule A in JIS Z 8401. The obtained value shall conform to table

Annex A (informative)
Type of coating and coating mass for tubes manufactured using coated steel
sheet or coated steel strip
Introduction
For tubes produced from coated steel sheet and coated steel strip, the type of coating and coating
mass applied should be in accordance with this Annex.
a) The coating should be one of the follow 5 types: hot-dip zinc-coating, electrolyte zinc-coating, hot-
dip aluminium- coating, hot-dip zinc 5% aluminium alloy-coating and hot-dip 55% aluminium-zinc
alloy-coating. When applying equivalent thickness coating, the coating mass as specified in JIS G
3302, JIS G 3313, JIS G 3314, JIS G 3317 and JIS G 3321 is applied.
JIS G 3444 : 2010
b) For the coating by hot-dip zinc-coating and hot-dip 55% aluminium-zinc alloy-coating, the coating
mass may be different between the front and rear surfaces of the steel sheet or steel strip
(differential thickness coating). In this case, the following conditions should be satisfied:
1) The minimum coating mass on the outside surface of a tube should be 30 g/m2 or over for the
1)
triple-spot average minimum coating mass and 26 g/m2 or over for single-spot minimum
coating mass, in the case of hot-dip zinc-coating, and should be 35 g/m2 or over for the triple-
spot aerage minimum coating mass and 30 g/m2 or over for the single-spot minimum coating
mass, in the case of the hot-dip 55 % aluminium-zinc alloy-coating.
Note 1) See 5.2.2 of JIS G 3302
2) The minimum of coating mass of the inside surface of a tube should be 30 g/m 2 or over for
the triple-spot average minimum coating mass and 26 g/m2 or over for the single-spot
minimum coating mass, for both cases of hot-dip zinc-coating and hot-dip 55 % aluminium-
zinc alloy-coating.
c) Other coating. The type of coating applied may be hot-dip coating or electrolytic coating other
than a) according to the agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser. In this case,
the following conditions should be satisfied:
1) The minimum coating mass of the hot-dip coating, which is a total of both surfaces, should be
normally 60 g/m2 or over for triple-spot average minimum coating mass and 51 g/m2 or over
for single-spot minimum coating mass. The minimum coating mass of electrolytic coating,
which is a one-surface coating mass, should be 8.5 g/m2 or over for the equivalent thickness
oating and 8 g/m2 for differential thickness coating.
