I have learned that St. De la Salle and St. Benilde are quite alike from the animations.

The two
brothers -- who had wanted to become a priest since they were young -- had become teachers
who did all they can to give children the education they deserve and they were lacking. The both
of them had also helped the marginalized in their community. St. De la Salle strived to support
his poor students, while St. Benilde put in effort in teaching a deaf man through sign language.
Though the only difference I could think of between them is how St. De la Salle had come from
a privileged family, so much so he had only seen poverty up close when he assisted as a
teacher in a charity school far from his home, unlike St. Benilde's family, especially his father,
who had wanted him to work in their land instead of pursuing his dream of being a priest.

I feel as if I can relate more to St. Benilde's actions. I am not only speaking as a Benildean as I
have been involved in charity events and outreaches for the people in need even before I had
known the name of this university.

A quality of both the founder and our patron I want to emulate would be their determination. I
have to admit for most of my life I was someone who had easily given up. Though now I am
learning to take it one step at a time. I should not rush results. I have to be patient with people
as well.

To be a Benildean-Lasallian, we have to be sympathetic to others, even if we do not fully

understand their struggles we have to be willing to listen to their thoughts and feelings. Besides
that, we also have to be open or in other words inclusive making sure that everybody is
accommodated for and feels that they are valid and have worth.
