ACTIVE LEARNING

 Active learning is any approach to instruction in which all

students are asked to engage in the learning process. Active
learning stands in contrast to "traditional" modes of instruction in
which students are passive recipients of knowledge from an
expert.

WHAT IS ACTIVE LEARNING?

 Active learning refers to a broad range of teaching strategies

which engage students as active participants in their learning
during class time with their instructor. Typically, these strategies
involve some amount of students working together during class,
but may also involve individual work and/or reflection. These
teaching approaches range from short, simple activities like
journal writing, problem solving and paired discussions, to
longer, involved activities or pedagogical frameworks like case
studies, role plays, and structured team-based learning.

IMPORTANCE OF ACTIVE LEARNING

 The benefits to using such activities are many, including
improved critical thinking skills, increased retention and transfer
of new information, increased motivation, improved interpersonal
skills, and decreased course failure (Prince, 2004).
5 TYPES OF ACTIVE LEARNING
1.TAKE NOTES.
 It’s a proven science that notetaking increases memory and your
understanding of new ideas.
2.WRITE ABOUT IT.
 Another way to actively engage with educational material is to
write about it. To remember a new idea, try writing a summary of
it.
3.TEACH SOMEONE ELSE.
 Verbal communication is another excellent way to practice active
learning. When you explain an idea to someone else, you realize
how much you actually understand.
4.MOVE AROUND.
 Movement wakes up your body and is good for your brain. Many
people spend extended periods of time sitting each day at work,
so being still for longer to learn can be frustrating.
5.TAKE BREAKS
 To learn well, you must rest well, too. Take frequent breaks to
recharge and be ready to learn from educational meetings or
courses.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY

-To have active learning experience, use of technology tools and multimedia helps
enhance the atmosphere of the classroom.

Each student actively engages in the learning process. Using movies and games the
teacher can make the experience more effective.

The theoretical foundation of this learning process are :

Flow - Flow is a concept to enhance the focus level of the student as each and every
individual becomes aware and completely involved in the learning atmosphere.
In accordance with one’s own capability and potential, through self-awareness,
students perform the task at hand.

LEARNING STYLES - Acquiring knowledge through one’s own technique is called

learning style.

IT CATERS TO ALL KINDS OF LEARNERS:

1. Visual
2. Kinesthetic
3. cognitive
4. affective
LOCUS OF CONTROL - Ones with high internal locus of control believe that every
situation or event is attributable to their resources and behavior.

INTRINSIC MOTIVATION - Intrinsic motivation is a factor that deals with self-

perception about the task at hand. Interest, attitude, and results depend on the self-
perception of the given activity.
