Monitor.
THESE SIMPLIFIED INSTRUCTIONS ARE DESIGNED TO FACILITATE
USE AND OPERATION OF THE GAS MONITOR. THEY DO NOT
REPLACE THE USER INSTRUCTIONS AS ISSUED BY THE
MANUFACTURER, WHICH SHOULD ALWAYS BE READ BEFORE THE
INSTRUMENT IS USED. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE DESIGNED TO
PROVIDE AN EASY AND QUICK GUIDE TO COMPLIMENT YOUR
UNDERSTANDING OF THE MANUFACTURER’S USER MANUAL.

1. Switching on.

a. Press and hold the “power”(Enter) button for approx. 5 seconds

[The instrument displays the full range capability for both types
of gases, and then the battery life. The pump starts and the
instrument displays “preparation”]

Display On Switch which

HC = Hydrocarbon and is doubles as an Enter
calibrated against button for user input.
Butane.
O2 = Oxygen included.
b. When prompted, visually check the two sample line filters for
correct fitting and colour. If the whole length of either filter is
discoloured then the filter(s) must be replaced. If the filter(s) are
ok then confirm by pressing “Enter” (Power) button once until a
single bleep is heard.
c. The rest of the process is automatic. The instrument performs a
sensor check and countdowns for 30 seconds whilst the sensor
warms up.
d. If the start up process has been successful the instrument will
display the value of gas in % LEL and % Volume Oxygen.
e. If the start up process is not successful the instrument will
display “Fault” and the “alarm” light will be illuminated.

2. General Operation.

a. Pump on / off. Whilst the instrument is in measurement mode

you can switch off the pump to conserve battery life. The pump
is switched off (and then on again) by pressing and holding the
“pump” (+) button for approx. 5 seconds. The display will
indicate how long to press the button for and when the pump
status has been altered.

b. Zero of Sensors. At switch on, drift may have occurred and the
unit may read other than it should ( 0.0%LEL and 20.9% O2 ).
This can be corrected by “zeroing” the sensors. A full zero is
performed by pressing and holding the “zero” (-) button for
approx 5 seconds. The display will indicate how long to press
the button for and then asks for the user to apply Fresh Air.
Confirm that the unit is in fresh air by pressing the
“enter”(Power) button until the instrument beeps once and the
display changes to read “adjusting zero”. After approx. 10
seconds the unit displays that the “zero set” was “ok” and
returns to normal measurement mode and display.
c. Peak Values. Whilst the instrument is in measurement mode
you can check the peak (and trough) values for both ranges of
gas by pressing the “peak” button for approx 5 seconds. The
instrument bleeps once and the display changes to show a “P”
at the left hand side of the screen and the peak ( and trough)
values. After approx 10 seconds the display will automatically
revert back to measurement mode.

d. Battery Test. Whilst the instrument is in measurement mode

you can see how much battery life remains. Press the “Batt” (
esc. ) button until the instrument bleeps once. The display will
change to show the level of the battery power. After approx 10
seconds the display will automatically revert back to
measurement mode.
3. Switching off.

a. The instrument can be switched off by one long press on the

“Power” (Enter) button.
b. During the long press the unit bleeps constantly and eventually
the bleeps stop and the display goes blank.

THESE SIMPLIFIED INSTRUCTIONS ARE DESIGNED TO FACILITATE
CALIBRATION OF THE GAS MONITOR. THEY DO NOT REPLACE THE
CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS AS ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER,
WHICH SHOULD ALWAYS BE READ BEFORE THE INSTRUMENT IS
CALIBRATED. THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE
AN EASY AND QUICK GUIDE TO COMPLIMENT YOUR
UNDERSTANDING OF THE MANUFACTURER’S CALIBRATION
MANUAL.

1. Calibration.

a. To complete a full sensor calibration the following equipment is

required :-

Cylinder of Gas 8.0% by volume Butane, balance

N2.
Cylinder of Gas 50% LEL Butane, balance Air.
A Tedlar bag or suitable flow regulator.

Flow Regulator, set to

more than 0.3 Litres per
min.

0.7% volume
Butane = 50% LEL 8.0% Volume Butane

b. With the instrument turned on and operating correctly the

calibration function is accessed by pressing and holding the
span buttons, which are the “zero” and “pump” buttons.
c. The display will tell you to hold these buttons until the calibration
function is switched on.
d. The display then asks for “GAS HC” to be applied.
e. Decide which range you wish to calibrate and then select the
appropriate gas cylinder. Connect up the gas. If a flow regulator
is used then the flow-rate of gas must be more than 0.3 l/min.

f. Press the “Enter” (Power) button when the gas is flowing

through the instrument at the correct rate.
g. The display will then change to show the actual concentration of
the gas from the cylinder with “+” or “-“ prompts to adjust the
value.
h. Allow the gas to flow until the displayed reading becomes stable
and use the “+” or the “-“ buttons to adjust the reading of the
instrument to correspond with the concentration of gas from the
Gas cylinder.
i. When the adjustment has been made press the “enter” ( power)
button to confirm. The instrument will now briefly display that the
calibration has been performed successfully. Please note that if
the calibration has failed the unit will also display a failed
message and in addition will “Bleep” in alarm.

j. Also please note if once the gas has been applied, no

adjustment is required then the “ESC” ( Battery) button should
be pressed to “escape” from the procedure.
k. If either the “enter” to accept or the “esc” to abort button is
pressed the instrument will automatically then switch to
calibration of the O2 sensor and ask that O2 span gas is
applied.

Please note that normally the % Volume Flammable Gas

Cylinder should have a balance of Nitrogen and this is
sufficient for a zero ( or span ) of the Oxygen to take place.
l. To span O2, nitrogen is required and this gas cylinder should be
connected to the instrument at a flow-rate of more than 0.3
l/min. Confirm when the gas is flowing by pressing the “enter”
(Power) button.
m. Allow the gas to flow until the displayed reading becomes stable
and use the “+” or the “-“ buttons to adjust the reading of the
instrument to correspond with the concentration of gas from the
gas cylinder.
n. When the adjustment has been made press the “enter” ( power)
button to confirm. The instrument will now briefly display that the
calibration has been performed successfully. Please note that if
the calibration has failed the unit will also display a failed
message and in addition will “Bleep” in alarm.
o. Also please note if once the gas has been applied, no
adjustment is required then the “ESC” ( Battery) button should
be pressed to “escape” from the procedure.
p. If in step “e” above you have chosen to calibrate the % Vol.
sensor then the flammable channel calibration should be
repeated for the % LEL calibration and vice-versa.
q. Steps “e” to “j” should then be followed for the second range of
flammable gas to calibrate to.
