Abstract

This descriptive research study was conducted to determine

the numeracy level of the grade seven learners in the

district of San Enrique, Iloilo when taken as a whole and

when classified as to sex and school. Also, it sought to

determine if significant differences existed in the numeracy

level of the learners when classified as to variables.

Furthermore, this study will devise an extension program for

the non-numerates. The respondents are the five hundred

fifty-six grade seven learners in the district of San

Enrique, Iloilo who were taken through complete/total

enumeration. The researchers adopted the 2022 Enhanced-

Regional Unified Numeracy Test (E-RUNT) of DepEd to

determine the numeracy level of grade seven learners in the

district of San Enrique, Iloilo who are officially enrolled

during school year 2022-2023. The data were gathered from

the class advisers of grade seven learners and were analyzed

using the frequency distribution, mean, Kruskal-Wallis, and

Mann-Whitney tests. The results revealed that the grade

seven learners were numerates when taken as a whole. When

classified as to sex, female were numerates while male were

non-numerates. As to school, Big and Small B were numerates

while Small A and Medium were non-numerates. Moreover, one-

fourth of the grade seven learners in the district of San

Enrique, Iloilo were non-numerates. Also, there are many

non-numerate male learners than female and among the four

schools, Small A had the greatest number of non-numerates.

It further showed that the numeracy level of grade seven

learners when classified as to sex and school was not

comparable. Based on the results of the study, the

researchers craft the Project ANGAT (Accelerating Numeracy

of Grade 7 Learners with the Aid of Technology) to improve

the numeracy of grade seven learners in the district of San

Enrique, Iloilo.
