CASE STUDY
INTRODUCTION
A case study can be an integral part of Engineering course because it allows students to experience
situations that engineers that are currently facing in the real world, During a case study the students
play the role of engineers and managers to analyse a problem, make recommendations, and defend
those recommendations. Engineers case studies cover an overview of the industry being studied as
well as any technical background information which includes chats, photographs and videos. A major
advantage of the implementation of the case study in the curriculum is it provides a connection to the
actual practice of engineering and what is being used in the classroom. The methodology has also
been shown to be effective at developing higher order cognitive skills such as critical thinking,
problem solving, and integrating information from multiple sources. The case study also introduce a
number of concepts that have not been a part of the curriculum or amplified these significantly.

OBJECTIVES OF A CASE STUDY

1. To apply engineering knowledge to solve real world problems.
2. To tie in past knowledge and ideas to a technical decision.
3. To understand the broad constraints industry can place on design and decisions.
4. To prepare a persuasive presentation to defend recommendations

BASIC STEPS TO IMPLEMENT AN EFFECTIVE CASE STUDY

1. Students should understand nature and scope of problem.

2. Discuss the necessary criteria to solve the problem.
3. Identify the feasible alternatives to solve the problem.
4. Perform an analysis of technical data and information.
5. Generate a report or presentation to support.

CRITERIA WILL HELP WITH IMPLEMENTING AN EFFECTIVE

CASE STUDY

1. Choose an actual problem that has occurred in real world.

2. Choose a problem that can be portrayed in an unbiased and non-judgemental story format.
3. Choose a problem that contain several alternative solutions.
4. Choose a problem that consists of conflicting options.
5. Case study should allow for role playing and debate among team members.
6. Case study should emphasize technical information related to field.
7. Case study should include business issues that arise in engineering problems
The `Four-Day Work Week` Proposal in India: Will it Work?

CLIENT INTRODUCTION
1. An employment schedule known as a ‘four-day workweek’ sees full-time employees working
four days each week as opposed to the customary five.
2. Employees typically work this schedule, which has grown common in various nations and
companies, from Monday through Thursday.
3. The timetable is different from a compressed work schedule, in which workers put in the
same number of hours across fewer days. For instance, they might work four days of 10-hour
shifts.

PROBLEM
1. The minimal requirement of 48 hours of work per week, or 12 hours per day, must be met by
the employees. While it is feasible in some sectors, such as IT, it could be more difficult in
others, including FMCG, manufacturing, construction, healthcare, etc.
2. Employer productivity can increase when employees work fewer days each week. This may
be since they are more enthusiastic and engaged at work, and they are less likely to put off
finishing their chores when they have fewer days to do so.
SOLUTION
1. Professionals can choose from a variety of flexible working choices whether looking for a job
or trying to adjust at their current position. Four days a week at work is one of these choices.
2. The four-day workweek is a novel idea in India, where the Centre has been developing four
new labour rules that will significantly alter employee pay, PF payments, and working hours.

RESULTS
1. The most important advantage is that the Working four days per week decreases the number
of times a professional commute to work. This is helpful to the environment, as most
vehicles produce emissions that can harm the environment.
2. Having a positive work-life balance can also allow professionals to adopt a better attitude
about their work, as they can return to their jobs well-rested. This can help employees remain
productive and enthusiastic while working.
3. Setting up a time-based timetable for when you accomplish things may also be beneficial.

CONCLUSION
Hence the introduction of The `Four-Day Work Week` Proposal in India led to a simple and
fast working process in which they can take off from the work and they can spend more time in their
personal life.
