1. PURPOSE OF TEST
This test procedure provides method of factory testing Individual Holding Steam Jet Ejectors. Calculation
used in this procedure are based on H.E.I standard for steam jet ejector system, which are result of great
many years of accumulated experience within the industry. They are sufficiently reliable and accurate to
provide both the customer and Mazda with assurance that each Holding Ejector tested in accordance with
HEI specified method will meet the performance determined by the test and these ejector have been
tested under condition that will tend to obviate any possible difficulties after the ejectors have been
installed in the customer’s plant.

1.2 ALTERNATE METHODS

This test procedure permits alternate method of testing. *For Example, while single jet and multi jet none
condensing ejector shall be tested as a complete unit, while multi stage condensing ejectors shall be
tested or may at the Mazda’s option. If stage tested, MAZDA shall provide the necessary test equipments
for each test. MAZDA has satisfied himself concerning the accuracy of these alternate testing methods by
virtue of vast long experience.
(* In case of single ejector, testing shall be done as a complete unit. But in case of Multi-stage ejector,
testing shall be done as a stage wise as the Mazda does not have the facility for testing multi ejectors
using all the numerous entrained gas Mixtures.)

1.3 UNNECESSARY TESTING

This procedure is not intended to encourage unnecessary testing. Test on duplicate unit is eliminated
without prejudice to the purchaser when operating parameters remains unchanged.

2.0 SCOPE OF TEST

2.1 TEST ITEM

To test a steam jet ejector adequately, it is necessary to establish the correct operating values like suction
capacity, suction pressure, discharge pressure etc. when the ejector operating at the design point at the
specified motive steam pressure and equivalent temperature.

JET EJECTORS
2.2 TEST GASES
Since MAZDA cannot be expected to maintain facilities for testing ejectors using all the numerous
entrained gas mixture and at all the many entrained gas temperatures for which ejectors are used, it shall
suffice in all cases to test ejectors with dry air at normal room temperature at Ejector suction with Dry &
Saturated Steam as Motive Fluid.

2.3 EQUIVALENT LOADING

Steam jet ejector shall be tested to meet 21 ˚C (70° F) Air equivalent calculated as per H.E.I standard
calculation for Air flow through nozzle shall be calculated as per H.E.I Figure 15.

3.0 PROCEDURE OF TEST

3.1 TEST ARRANGEMENT Comment given in previous revision
not incorporated properly.
Test arrangement should be such to take accurate reading. Test arrangement for "Suction
piccolo tube or flow
capacity, Suction pressure
nozzle used to measure capacity point shall be as per normal practice. and discharge pressure shall be
variable parameters,"
3.2 PARAMETERS – VARIABLE AND UNVARIABLE
As per this project Suction capacity and suction pressure shall be variable parameters, whereas
motive pressure, discharge pressure and motive flow shall be invariable parameters (if steam
pressure is superheated, steam pressure shall be corrected to corresponding saturated temperature.
performance test shall be conducted with dry and saturated steam pressure.) . Discharge Pressure
shall be measure simultaneously after altering each capacity point.

3.3 Allowable Tolerance (Acceptance Criteria)

The test results of this performance standard shall be compared to the agreed upon design point and will
be found to be acceptable providing they are within the following limits as specified in HEI Standard
(Reference page from HEI Standard attached in this procedure)

Variable Unit Tolerance

Capacity lb/hr. (-) 3%
Steam Consumption lb/hr. (+) 3%

4.0 TYPE OF TESTING

Curve after conducting the test shall be plotted for Suction capacity V/s. Suction Pressure keeping motive
steam pressure and discharge pressure constant.

5.0 DOCUMENTATION
Plotting these 21 ˚C (70° F) equivalent load values V/S. suction pressure and drawing a curve through
them indicating design capacity point. (Reference format of Report attached in this procedure)
