Rationale

The typical Filipino's daily routine includes going to the local sari-sari (general or variety)
store. The most convenient place to get any necessary household item that might be missing
from one's pantry is the nearby sari-sari store, which sells everything from basic foods like coffee
and margarine to other essentials like mosquito coils, soap, and matches in affordably portioned
quantities, sometimes even on credit. Apart from the wealthiest neighborhoods, sari-sari stores
are a common sight in both rural and urban residential regions of the Philippines, thriving even in
the most impoverished squatter settlements. Every sari-sari store you visit may offer similar
products, but the number of products they carry will always be as varied as a glass of ”halo-
halo”.The best thing about the sari-sari store is the ability of people to buy things ”tingi” or per
piece. Sari-sari stores are the only place where you can buy a piece of candy or a stick of
cigarette instead of having to buy a pack of each.Prices are also more affordable than
convenience stores because most of them are run from the owner’s own home. They don’t profit
much from the business venture, though; most of their stock comes from supermarkets, and they
only have a 1 or 2-peso markup on everything they sell.( Primer,2016) Sari-sari stores are the
most common type of retail business in the Philippines. They are small, family-owned stores that
sell a variety of everyday household items. The word sari-sari is Tagalog for “variety” or
“assorted”. The average sari-sari store is about 10 square meters in size and is located in the
front of the owner’s house. Most sari-sari stores are open 24 hours a day. (Jan,2022)
According to Harry Yeung (2020), De La Salle University defined entrepreneurship as the
creation of a new good or service, the assumption of any risk that comes with creating that good
or service and the receipt of rewards or profits. Entrepreneurship can create jobs, wealth and
social empowerment, all of which may contribute to a decrease in poverty. Most people in the
Philippines are employed in the informal sector.  Entrepreneurial Knowledge or skills can
encompass a large range of both soft and hard skills. These are the skills that are developed as
many business roles were played. It is set to accommodate the business. (Herrity, 2022)
According to the study of Costa and Mares (2016), in addition to personality traits,
several additional individual difference variables have been found to predict entrepreneurship.
Demographic factors affecting entrepreneurial behaviors and knowledge are age ethnicity,
educational level, gender, labour experience, previous experience in self-employment, etc.
Based on the concepts presented, the researchers would like to measure the amount of
entrepreneurial knowledge of sari-sari stores owners and determine the level of their
entrepreneurial knowledge such as communication skills, customer service skills, financial skills,
and technical skills. The aim of studying the entrepreneurial knowledge of sari-sari store owners
through quantitative research is to gather empirical data and statistically analyze the relationship
between various factors that contribute to the success of sari-sari store businesses. The
demographic profile of the respondents including: age, length of service and educational
attainment. This type of research can help identify the specific knowledge and skills that
successful sari-sari store owners possess, as well as the challenges they face and strategies
they use to overcome them. Additionally, the study can provide insights into the effectiveness of
existing support programs and interventions designed to help sari-sari store owners improve their
entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to contribute to the
development of evidence-based policies and programs that can help promote the growth and
sustainability of sari-sari store businesses, which play a significant role in the economy and
communities of the Philippines.

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1. age;
1.2. length of service; and
1.3 educational attainment?

2. What is the level of entrepreneurial knowledge of sari-sari Stores Owners in Tayabas City in
terms of:
2.1. communication skills;
2.2. customer service skills;
2.3. financial skills; and
2.4. technical skills?

3. Is there a significant difference between the respondents' entrepreneurial knowledge

according to demographic profile:
3.1. age;
3.2. length of service; and
3.3. educational attainment?
4. What promotional video can be developed based on the results of the study?

RESEARCH METHODS

The researchers will utilize a quantitative type of research. It will focus on the descriptive
survey research design intended to measure the entrepreneurial knowledge such as
communication skills, customer service skills, financial skills, and technical skills of sari-sari store
owners in Tayabas City. This design describes the relationship between the age of the
respondents, their length of service, educational attainment and entrepreneurial knowledge.
