new lesson ( may be performed in individual, tandem or by small groups.)
(Motivation)

Let the class perform up to the 6th figure and record the number of
sticks used for every figure. What do you think is the number of
sticks on the 10th figure?
C. Presenting Examples/ Present and read to the class. Alex bought playing cards. He noticed
instances of the new that 1 star on the first card, 3 stars on the second page, 7 stars on
lesson( Presentation) the third page, and 15 stars on the fourth page. How many stars are
there on the fifth card?

practicing new skills no.1
( Modeling)

Let the class predict or guess the next card.

Upon observing the cards, the pattern shows “times 2 plus 1” to
predict the number of stars on the next card.
Verify by computing using the rule x2+1 See example 3 on page 252
of the LM for the solution. Rule involves two fundamental
operations ( x and +)
E. Discussing new concepts and Present new example. (use Example 5 on page 253- 254 of LM)
practicing new skills Miguel saves part of his allowance in his piggy bank everyday. On
no.2( Guided Practice) the first day, he saved 1.00. On the 2nd day, he saved 2.00. On the
3rd day, he saved 5.00. On the 4th day, he saved 14.00. If this
pattern continues, how much will Miguel save on the 6th day?
Explain the pattern and the rule 1,2,5,14,____,____ Rule is x3-1 The

H. Making Generalization and How do you formulate the rule in finding the next term in a
abstraction about the lesson sequence with two operations? A sequence is a list of numbers or
( Generalization) objects in a defined or logical order. Set of numbers in a sequence
is determined through a rule which applies. The rule which was
applied may be a one fundamental operation or maybe a
combination of two fundamental operations such as multiplication
and addition.
I. Evaluating learning Choose from the following rules in the box which apply to the given

B. Establishing a purpose of the Talk about tourist destinations they like to visit at Bicol region by
new lesson car.Identify each and allow them to share their experiences. So , if
(Motivation) you don’t have a car to visit such places you have to commute or
rent a car to enjoy your travel.
C. Presenting Examples/ Read the problem under “Engage” on page 268 of the LM.
instances of the new A car rental ageny has two plans.Under plan A, a car is rented for
lesson( Presentation) Php80.00 plus Php 20.00 for each additional day. Under plan B, a
car is rented for Php 120.00 plus Php15.00 for each additional day.
What number of days would result in the same cost?
D. Discussing new concepts and The problem can be solve in different ways (strategies) such as:
practicing new skills no.1  Guessing /looking for a pattern, see pages 269-270 of the LM
( Modeling)

 Transforming the problem in numerical equation and solving with

combining like terms, additive inverse and multiplicative
inverse(reciprocal)
Explain this strategy under Explore, Strategy 1 on pages 268-269 of
the LM Let, d as the number of days 80+20d for plan A 120+15d for
plan B
80+20d =120+15d 80+20d-15d =120+15d-15d use additive inverse
for 15d on both sides
80+5d =120 80+5d-80 =120-80 use additive inverse for 80 on both
sides 5d =40 ( 𝟏 𝟓 )5d =40( 𝟏 𝟓 ) use multiplicative inverse/
reciprocal of 5 on both sides d =8
May use other examples(example 1,example 2, example 3) on page
271 for this strategy.

E. Discussing new concepts and Other strategy to solve for the unknown in an equation is by
practicing new skills working backward.
no.2( Guided Practice) Present this example:
There were 5 people including Susan rode on a bus and only 1 got
off at the first bus top. At the next bus stop, 8 people rode on and 3
people got off. At the last stop before it reached the bus terminal, 9
people rode on again and no one got off. When it reached at the
bus terminal, a total of 42 people got off. How many people were
already on the bus before Susan rode on the first bus stop?
Explain the problem by writing the equation for it. Let p as the
number of people. p+5-1+8-3+9=42
Working backward begins at the total of the equation and start
computing by reversing the operation,(from + to – or from – to +)
and (from x to ÷ or from ÷ to x). It does not follow the MDAS rule or
the PEMDAS rule. Working backward is only applicable when the
unknown is at the beginning of the equation.
So,
p+5-1+8-3+9=42
when work backward becomes
42-9+3-8+1-5=p

So, the number of people before Susan rode on the bus is 24 Try
with another equation: 𝒏 𝟐 +5 ÷3 x5=15

F.Developing Mastery Solve for the unknown using any strategy.

(Leads to Formative Assessment 3.) GROUP 1 1) X - 7 = 8 + 10 ans. X=25 2) B – 5 x 2 = 12 ans. B=11
( Independent Practice ) GROUP 2: 1) 4d - 2d = 32 ans. d=16 2) 14m-10m+5=25 ans. m=5
GROUP 3: 1) n 6 + 20 – 3 + 10 = 30 ans. n=18 2) 19x – 4 = 76 + 10x
ans. x=8 Group 4: 1) N + 11 -48 + 8 x 3 = 180 ans. N=89 2) 142 - 10k
= 18k – 26 ans. k=6
G. Finding practical application Use any strategy to solve the word problem under Evaluate, letter
of concepts and skills in daily B, 1-3 on page 274.
living ( Application/Valuing) 1. Carlo has 98 customers in his newly built coffee shop. This is 4
more than twice the number of his customers last year. How many
customers did he have last year?
2. Luisa will make loombands. She has 13 red strings and she has 7
fewer yellow strings than the red strings. How many strings does
Luisa have in all?
3. Joey wants to buy a Math book which costs 500.00. This is 74.00
more than three times the amount he has saved. How much has he
saved?
H. Making Generalization and Read “Key Ideas” on page 275 of the LM. There are many strategies
abstraction about the lesson to solve for unknown in a given one variable equation involving two
( Generalization) or more mathematical operations. These strategies are: - Using
models - Guessing or looking for pattern - Using the additive inverse
or multiplying the reciprocal - Working backward
I. Evaluating learning Solve for the unknown using any strategy.Show your complete
solution.(Evaluate, letter A, 1-5 only on page 274 of LM)
