Project Engineer

A. Duties & Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the management of an assigned development program or programs as per Procedure 7 Product
Realization.
2. Responsible for communication to the customer regarding all program issues.
3. Responsible for tracking and updating all Program Specific Issues using the Open Issues form (MGMT_009). All
program information must also be shown on VISUAL PROGRAM DISPLAY BOARDS. Boards to be updated on a
weekly basis and available at engineers desk for review. Must follow standard board layout (See format description in
Engineering Training Section on Intranet). Accuracy of boards will be checked in weekly Layered Process Audits.
4. The project engineer will have ultimate program timing responsibility through all phases of the development program
until process sign-off. Program timing will be tracked using the LAUNCH READINESS SCHEDULE (ENG-016-C) and
the Tool Progress Report (ST1-006-C).
5. Initiate specific program meetings and invite all pertinent team members to attend. Discussed information and
signatures from team members to be recorded on ‘MGMT_001 Meeting Agenda’ and Minutes Form.
6. The project engineer will have ultimate design responsibility until customer PPAP approval (i.e. meets customer
requirements for appearance, function, durability, and reliability). The project engineer is responsible for calling,
conducting, and creating minutes for all program meetings
7. The project engineer will have ultimate responsibility for customer satisfaction during the development phase.
8. Compile quotations as assigned by Program Manager or Director of Engineering.
9. Implement engineering changes as per the Change Notice (CN) Procedure (see Prod Realization Proc 7).
10. Create and maintain respective program information on Intranet in APQP Folder(s). Any hard copy files to be scanned
and loaded on Intranet in APQP Folder(s).
11. Update the financial status of the program by updating the program quotation and maintaining the program balance
sheet (MGMT 010).
12. Responsible for tracking incoming and outgoing data using the DATA Transfer form (ENG_006).
13. The project engineer is ultimately responsible for product quality during the development phase, initial launch quality,
and launch costs after PPAP. The project engineer is responsible for communicating quality control requirements to
the quality department.
14. Responsible for sourcing and providing capable tools and equipment to manufacture the respective product (molds,
gauges, fixtures, etc.). End of arm tools and paint masks will be managed by Manufacturing Group.
15. Project Engineer is responsible to provide data and cost information to manufacturing group to develop end of arm
tools, masks, and assembly equipment.
16. Project Engineer is responsible to provide program specific information via the PROGRAM SUMMARY (Eng 003) to
the manufacturing group so they can develop a proposed floor plan and capacity plan.
17. Responsible for gathering all pertinent information and specifications for assisting in the sourcing of capital equipment.
18. Assist purchasing with the sourcing of purchased components and raw materials.
19. Schedule and coordinate mold trials, and prototype builds using TSR and PSR procedures (See Intranet Engineering
Training Section)
20. The project engineer is responsible for testing, validation and verification of all product and customer specific
performance requirements.
21. The project engineer is responsible for the continuous improvement of product design, performance, reliability, and
quality.
22. Compliance to TS16949procedures.
23. Manage the Paint Development Process with support from Program Manager and Manufacturing Paint Engineer.
24. Manage pre-production and run at rate trials with support from Program Manager
25. Tooling responsibilities: Manage tooling aspects of awarded programs. Ensure that all balance sheets are up to date.
Ensure that each program is tooled in a manner that facilitates quality production at the lowest cost. Responsible for
approval of the tools before shipping to plants with the support of the Tooling Engineer. Must set up a ECN once tools
arrive and get the approval of the MFG group before responsibility of the tools are taken over by the MFG group.
Continue to support any tooling related issues once in production. Manage engineering changes to tools once in
production.
26. The project engineer may also be responsible to carry out other tasks as directed by the Program Manager, Platform
Manager, Director of Engineering, Vice President or the President.

B. Minimum Qualifications

1. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office or similar software.


2. Preferred Engineering Degree or Diploma.

C. Required Skills

1. Sound organizational skills.


2. Good communication skills, written and verbal.
3. Familiar with customer and AIAG requirements.
4. Understanding of injection molding process.
5. Understanding of tooling.
6. Understanding of design and design tools; DFA, DFMEA, etc.
7. Understanding of quoting.
8. Understanding of key Quality & Environmental Management Systems procedures related to job function.
9. Understanding of all engineering related documents, procedures, and forms governing job function.

D. Quality Responsibilities

A) Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of product, process or quality system nonconformance.
B) Identify and record any problems relating to the product, process or quality system.
C) Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels.
D) Verify the implementation of solutions.
E) Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition
has been corrected.

E. Organizational Responsibilities
