Section 1: Review

Throughout my second year, I have developed so much as a performer and person. We started the year
with Shakespeare, which I thoroughly enjoyed, it gave me a deeper love for historical writings and
taught me to appreciate the difference in expression and emotion Shakespearean writing offers. I was
supported by my course leaders when I began my application process for university, something that
gave me a lot of anxiety. I was directed towards monologues that would suit me and given honest
feedback about my monologues. I know now how to hold and present myself during auditions, and the
preparations that we made, made me a lot less anxious about the process. We also did an audio project
which introduced me to a new genre of acting, I developed a skill that I wouldn’t have otherwise. When
going into FMP I wanted to push myself to present myself in a way that would show my abilities, I also
wanted to collaborate with my peers more. Long term, I aspire to go into directing and explore other
roles in the industry, I enjoy acting but I aspire to be a part of the creation.

Section 2: Project Concept

This project was a huge collaboration, we created a play from scratch, and so, the process relied upon
our creativity. Our aim was to create a show that we would perform 6 times. It was themed around the
life of the Bronte siblings and the worlds they created as children. This required a lot of research into the
Bronte’s lives and their writings. I read poems and watched documentaries on their lives and creations. I
expect that our show will be a colourful celebration of our work, and correctly portray the Brontes and
their world. We will use performance spaces to bring the ideas to life, they will allow us to envision our
stage until it is free to use. Working with industry professionals will allow us to get a feel of the real
environment within the industry and allow us to remain at a professional work ethic. Feedback from our
director will aid us in outlining our strengths and weaknesses, allowing our performance to be
enhanced. Learning our scripts and characters’ motives will be included in individual studies.

Section 3: Evaluation
To Reflect on my work, I will self-evaluate the work I did in and out of the rehearsal room, and what I
could have done better. The weekly reflection videos will be a good way to document my actions, and
how effective they’ve been throughout the project, whilst also tracking any challenges I face. I will also
be annotating my script with any thoughts or changes that are made. Notes from the creative team are a
good way to check in on how I’m doing and a way to conversate about how I’m doing and what could be
better. Having good communication between myself and the director is vital, ensuring everyone involved
is on the same wavelength. Having my notebook in rehearsals is also a good way to track how I’m
feeling and what I’m doing throughout the day. To create a healthy working environment between me
and the cast, I intend to keep a sense of focus whilst also making the room feel relaxed, especially
during the performance week. I often find that when we all come together and sing, or dance, we create
an energy that allows the day to go a lot more smoothly. I will also be ensuring that I don’t give any peer
feedback to anyone, I need to focus on myself, and I understand the repercussions my giving notes to
someone else can have, we don’t need any stress added on anyone. In doing so I hope the same
happens to me, I want to receive notes from the creative team when necessary and not from my peers,
in fear of changing something and the director being unhappy and making the process longer than it
needs to.

27th Wed – Created rehearsal room rules.
Two February Started to investigate different
characters’ mindsets. Made notes on all
the characters. Everyone was sorted into
pairs to work on one Glasstown
character.

Saw the brief timeline for the play.

6th March Started to think of scenes that LAGA
would be in.
Fri – Back in the rehearsal room. Talked
about the work we had done on

We then started to devise some scenes
with the characters we had been working
on.

Wed – Went through the whole play’s

Sat in a circle and went through each
scene, improvising it up until the
interval.
We then began to carry out these
scenes, we did one about the night when
LAGA gets drugged, and the other was
about Emily and LAGA together alone.
Fri – Created the scene with two others
where Lady Zenobia gets stabbed by
Zamorna.
We then started to think about how we
were going to portray each sibling’s
death.
I did charlottes death first and then
moved on to Anne’s death.
We then shared the pieces we had
created together.

20th March Wed – Worked as LAGA, doing improv script.
Five scenes. Wrote speeches for the
characters in the scene we were
portraying. Spoke about how each
character felt about another, why they do
or don’t like that person etc. created a
script from the work we made, sharing it
at the end.
Fri – Portrayed the first scene as
Charlotte. Started to work on the
physicality of the scene. Scripted work.

Wed – Read the first draft of the script.
Six 27th March Speaking about what we did and didn’t
like about parts of it, should a character
be intense etc., we then started to bring a
couple of the scenes to life. I and my
group performed one scene of the
siblings mixed with a bit of Glasstown, to
a scene with just Glasstown characters.
Fri – we were at home due to it being an
inset day, we were cast in our roles.

Mon – In naturals theatre for the first
Seven 17th April time. Started with a movement session
led by Deeps. Did a vocal session with
Lizzy, learning the war song. Lizzy began
to incorporate some music into the
movements. We worked mainly on scene
10/11. Looking with deeps at the
warrior’s movement.
Tues – Rough script read-through in the
morning. Began to plot our character’s
journey throughout the show. We were
told to find a movie scene we would
recreate that fit best to our characters.
Wed – Performed the scenes we chose.
Created documents for the Bronte’s
ages, and the locations of each scene
throughout the play. Revisited the war
song, then looked at the creation song
for Glasstown. Started to block the
creation of Glasstown roughly.
Thurs – a vocal and physical warm-up.
Continuing the creation of Glasstown.
Fri – mindfulness and physical warmup.
Recap of the songs, showing Steph the
work, we had done so far. Rehearsed
scenes 1 – 3.

scene 2 with creation song and recapped
war song. Run through from pages 1 to

Nine 1st May Mon – Bank holiday.
Tues – rehearsing pages 47 – 55. Looked
at the warriors’ attack, adding the war
song to the scene. The whole of act one
has been blocked, we used cardboard
cut outs to represent them.
Wed – stagger through act one, adding
transitions and music/ sound. Plotted the
tracks of the blocks.
Thurs - Started blocking pages 67 – 76.
Blocking of pages 76 – 79, putting the
pages together at the end.
Fri – music call, learning the new song
and refreshing the other songs. Alice
worked on small scenes with cast
members when they were not required in
the music call. Went to see the first
year’s show in the afternoon.

ten 8th May Tues – firstly worked on the war council
scene, blocking it. Worked on pages 80 –
85, going through the aftermath of the
destruction to the press conference. Had
costume fittings in the afternoon. Did a
small run through from pages 77 – 87.
Wed – all morning we worked with lizzie
on the songs and sound. In the afternoon
we incorporated all the sound into act 2,
doing a staggered run through. In the
evening some people were called to work
on more specific things.
Thurs – we first did a warm-up and
notes, then did a full run-through of the
play. Once we finished the run-through,
we then did notes, on stage.
Fri – ran through act two with music,
people had costume fittings, did a run
through of the play so far.

Mon –Some were called in the morning
Eleven 15th May to work on smaller scenes. We had a
fight call for those who needed it.
Everyone got into costume and began
tech rehearsal 1.
Tues – Individual work with deeps and
Steph and Alice in the morning. After
lunch, the cast got into costumes and
started day two of tech.
Wed – warm up before we started
rehearsals. ran through tech, out of
costume. In the afternoon we changed
into costumes and ran through tech
again. Dress rehearsal was cancelled, we
teched act two until the end of the day.
Thurs – worked through notes. Had
makeup call, got into costume and the
fight call began. Ran through dress
rehearsal. We received notes. Had
makeup touchups, and then did
performance 1.
Fri – in the afternoon we had working
notes on stage, then a makeup call just
before dinner. Fight call, and then
performance 2.
Sat – notes in morning. Then a makeup
call, warm up on stage, fight call, change
into costume. Performance 3. After the
performance, out of costume, dinner.
When we returned, we had makeup touch
ups, performance 4.
Sun – rest

Mon – speed run of play in the afternoon.
Twelve Makeup call after break. Fight call, cast
22nd May into costume. Warm up on stage,
performance 5.
Tues – Makeup call, fight cast into
costume for fight call. Warm up on stage,
performance 6. Cast out of costume.
