Equations and Inequalities

Textbook Ch21, p.248-256
[18]

1. Solve these equations to find the value of the unknown.

25-9=16 32 - 25 = 7 40-36=4 17=31-14

x=3 x=5 x=6 x=7

The last one is a bit unusual so some people might not understand it. They
basically just flipped it around so instead of saying 31-2x=17 they said [4]
17=31-2x which basically means the same thing. Hence my answer.
2.

a) 18+6x
b) 18+24=42
c) x=2

[4]

3.

3x+2=23
So basically, here you do 23-2=21 because its added at the end right.
Then what times 3 is 21 the answer is obviously 7 if my whole life hasn't
been a lie and some mathematicians prove my "theory" wrong.

4.

a)
b)
c)

5.

(42+3)÷3=15
x=15
Because in this case you add the 3 that he subtracted to get 45 then you divide it.
