Dear Parents and Carers Re: P.A.C.E.

(Personalised Alternative Curriculum Experience) May I take this opportunity to welcome you to Christs School. We are delighted that you have chosen our school and look forward to working with you and your child this year. As a Year 7 pupil, your child will be taking part in the P.A.C.E. programme, which is project-based crosscurricular learning. P.A.C.E. incorporates the following subjects: Geography, History, R.E. and Citizenship and is taught over eight periods a week. Pupils experience these subjects through a variety of topics, with one topic delivered each half-term. P.A.C.E. encourages pupils to work as part of a group, developing their own learning style and understanding of their peers. At the root of learning are the gospel values of tolerance, love and respect. For each topic, pupils are provided with a folder of resources. It is the pupils responsibility to ensure that they do not lose their folder. In the unlikely event of this happening, a small fee will be required to replace the folder. We are happy to support any pupils with organisational difficulties. P.A.C.E. projects are assessed at the end of each half term with a project written assessment, as well as the portfolio being assessed upon completion. Each week pupils complete a Challenge to demonstrate their learning, this is assessed each week. To support pupils and parents with P.A.C.E. homework, we will provide all pupils with a booklet at the beginning of the topic with the homework expectations and tasks for the half term period. Part of the homework booklet includes a homework tracking sheet, which incorporates a section for parents and carers to sign. Each half term project includes a school trip. We aim to make each of these trips as inexpensive as possible, with most trips being free. Trips include a visit to the Science Museum and the British Museum. In the first half term, there is the option of a Year 7 Residential Experience, which will allow pupils to spend time with their new classmates. Towards the end of each half term, we invite all parents and carers to attend an informal P.A.C.E. Afternoon. This is usually held between 3:30pm and 4:30pm and is an informal opportunity to meet your childs P.A.C.E. teacher and view their classwork in the P.A.C.E. department. We look forward to meeting you at the first of such occasions, details of which will be sent home imminently. Do not hesitate to contact your childs P.A.C.E. teacher if you require further information. Warm regards,

Mrs Elizabeth Swan Head of P.A.C.E. Assistant Head teacher eswan@christs.richmond.sch.uk
