RELATED LITERATURE

In a study conducted by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and the

National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), it was found that the implementation of

school safety and security ordinances can significantly reduce the number of incidents of violence and

improve school climate (NASP & NASRO, 2018). The study recommends the use of multi-disciplinary

teams that include law enforcement, mental health professionals, educators, and community members to

develop and implement these ordinances.

In another study, researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that school policies

and procedures related to safety and security can help to create a positive school climate, reduce the

likelihood of incidents of violence, and increase students' feelings of safety and security (Bradshaw et

al., 2010). The study recommends that schools develop and implement comprehensive school safety

plans that include clear policies and procedures related to school security, emergency response, and

crisis management.

A study conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA) found that the

implementation of school safety and security ordinances can also have a positive impact on students'

mental health and well-being (APA, 2015). The study recommends that schools develop and implement

policies and programs that focus on promoting positive mental health and well-being, such as providing

access to mental health services, promoting positive school climate, and fostering positive relationships

between students and staff.

Finally, a study conducted by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) found that school resource

officers (SROs) can play an important role in promoting school safety and security (NIJ, 2015). The
study recommends that schools work closely with law enforcement agencies to develop and implement

effective SRO programs that are focused on building positive relationships between students and law

enforcement, promoting positive school climate, and preventing and responding to incidents of violence.

In a study conducted by the National School Safety Center (NSSC), it was found that the

implementation of school safety and security ordinances can improve student safety, reduce crime, and

increase community support for schools (NSSC, 2017). The study recommends that schools work with

law enforcement and community partners to develop and implement comprehensive school safety plans

that address a range of issues, including emergency response, threat assessment, and crime prevention.

A study conducted by the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) found

that the implementation of school safety and security ordinances can help to create a positive school

climate, reduce student anxiety, and improve academic achievement (NASBE, 2019). The study

recommends that schools develop and implement comprehensive school safety plans that include clear

policies and procedures related to school security, emergency response, and crisis management.

In a study conducted by the RAND Corporation, researchers found that the implementation of

school safety and security ordinances can help to reduce incidents of violence and improve student

outcomes (RAND, 2018). The study recommends that schools develop and implement comprehensive

school safety plans that include evidence-based practices such as threat assessment, mental health

support, and positive behavioral interventions and supports.

A study conducted by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD) found that the

implementation of school safety and security ordinances can help to create a safe and supportive

learning environment for all students (NCCD, 2020). The study recommends that schools work with

community partners to develop and implement comprehensive school safety plans that address a range

of issues, including mental health, student behavior, and community engagement.
