Pharmacology ?
• is the branch of medicine and biology
concerned with the study of drug action,
where a drug can be broadly defined as any
man-made, natural, or endogenous (from
within body) molecule which exerts a
biochemical and/or physiological effect on the
cell, tissue, organ, or organism (sometimes the
word pharmacon ...
Bioinformatics ?
• is an interdisciplinary field that develops
methods and software tools for understanding
biological data. As an interdisciplinary field of
science, bioinformatics combines computer
science, statistics, mathematics, and
engineering to analyze and interpret biological
data.
Functional Genomics ?
• is a field of molecular biology that attempts to
make use of the vast wealth of data produced
by genomic and transcriptomic projects (such
as genome sequencing projects and RNA-seq)
to describe gene (and protein) functions and
interactions.
Microarrays
• A DNA microarray (also commonly known as
DNA chip or biochip) is a collection of
microscopic DNA spots attached to a solid
surface. Scientists use DNA microarrays to
measure the expression levels of large
numbers of genes simultaneously or to
genotype multiple regions of a genome.
Personalised Medicine
• is an emerging practice of medicine that uses
an individual's genetic profile to guide
decisions made in regard to the prevention,
diagnosis, and treatment of disease.
