Am I My Sibling's Keeper?

ETHICS

1. How would you feel if you are in Anna's situation where she finds out the purpose of your
existence? Share your answer in the minimum of 150 word

Personally, If I were in Anna’s situation, I would feel the same way. Regardless in the scene of the
movie that Ana did that because Kate wants to die. If I was in the same situation, I would be upset,
questioning my existence and purpose. I would think that I was born just to give my life to my
sister. Why do I have to do the things that are against my will? Why do I have to experience those
medical procedures? If I was in the situation, I would personally ask my parents. I would ask if I am
important to them too. Because in the movie, it is like Anna is being ignored by her parents since
their full attention is at Kate’s. In that case, if I am Anna, I would be jealous to my sister hence I
understand that I need to save her. May be if my parents would explain, elaborate and discuss all
the things, I would not feel all of the negative emotions

2. If you are Anna, would you do the same, legal? Why or why not? Share your answer in the
minimum of 150 words.

What did Anna do is right, because she has her own right and that is her body. Yet I would not do
the same legal civil action since I could talk to my parents personally that I would not do it or I could
not do it anymore because of circumstances. I would love to help and save my sister’s life, yet I
don’t want to do it in a way that my life would be at risk too. In that age of Anna’s, children are in a
stage of development that they gradually think mature that is why Anna decided to went to the
public attorney’s office and sue his parents. Because she felt like she is not important, she don’t
want to do more medical operations. Furthermore, getting back to my answer, I personally will not
do what Anna did since I could apprise my parents to do another way of saving my sister without
me getting involved.

3. Do you agree with the reasoning of Sara about her approach to saving the life of Kate?

Sara’s reasoning is unethical due to the fact that Anna’s life could be at risk, she does not think for
the health of Anna, which is her own daughter as well. It is also unethical in a way that they o the
procedures without the permission of Anna. Anna was at 5 years old, these things are complicated
enough to explain it to a naïve child. I believe that hey just decide from their impulsiveness
because they are desperate to cure and save Kate’s life. They could have find another way to help
Kate, yet they choose have a child and utilize that child to do catheterizations, bone-marrow
aspirations, stem cell purges etc. Anna’s life is at risk every time they do medical procedures just to
save Kate. In a nutshell, It is like you give life to one while you’re gradually taking the life of the
other one. Risking one’s life could not be and ever be ethical because every life has its purpose
and it is significant.

4. If you are Kate’s parents, would you grant her request to address her suffering? Why or
why not? Share your answer in the minimum of 150 words.

At first, I will not. Because that is what always a parent would respond to. Their children are one of
the reasons why they want to continue to live. They are the most precious thing that they have. So,
personally, I will not grant her request. I would do whatever it takes just to save my daughter
hence, not in a way that I would be risking one’s life. There is always another way and there is
always a choice not to risk anyone. Yet if I do everything, nothing changes, I see that my daughter
is suffering and she request that she lived a long life and I need to let her go, then I will grant it. No
parent/s wants to see his/her child suffering from the pain. Every parent wants the best for their
child. And if that request would ease and make my daughter stop suffering from the illness, then I
will let her go.

5. Lastly, write your personal realizations or experiences from the movie in relation to our
course, Moral Ethics.
