VesCoag
The Habib
TM
VesCoag is a novel
endovascular radiofrequency (RF) catheter
that is particularly effective for precise
vascular occlusion. Clinically it can be used
to arrest hemorrhage following trauma or
biopsy, stop bleeding in benign disease,
to cause partial or total vascular occlusion
to tumor blood supply in combination with
chemo-embolisation and it can occlude
vessels for indications such as arterio-venous
fstulae and varicocele. The Habib
TM
VesCoag
has also been recently used for opening
occluded vascular stent including TIPS
(Research phase).
Under fuoroscopic control, the Habib
TM

VesCoag uses a 5Fr vascular catheter
(110cm length) which inserts over a standard
0.014 inch guide wire into either an artery or
a vein. The catheter is manipulated into the
target vessel where it is used to coagulate
endovascular tissue. In clinical studies,
the average fuoroscopic time was 12.86
minutes and the mean duration of probe
activation was 4.0 minutes. The Habib
TM

VesCoag is available also as a 3Fr vascular
catheter which inserts over a standard 0.012
guidewire or a 1Fr which does not need a
guidewire.
The Habib
TM
VesCoag works with most
standard generators. Please contact
Emcision for further information.
Endovascular
The unique double stainless steel electrode
design allows the use of either a bipolar or
monopolar application and can be adjusted to
operate from 2 40 Watts. n bipolar mode,
a high frequency current is passed between
the two electrodes to heat and coagulate
the blood vessel wall, effectively sealing
off the blood supply. When the Habib
TM
VesCoag is used in monopolar mode, the
high frequency current passes between the
electrodes and patient grounding pad and
also effectively seals off the blood supply to
the tumor. After probe activation, a complete
angiogram can be performed to document
the effect of Habib
TM
VesCoag on the vessel.
If it is clinically indicated, chemoembolisation
can then be performed within the same
interventional session using the central
channel of the Habib
TM
VesCoag catheter.

Pre and post Habib

VesCoag
ablation of the blood supply to a
renal metastasis in segment III
The Habib
TM
VesCoag had a very high level of patient
acceptability in clinical studies. The only complication
reported was minor pain which appeared to be related to
duration of probe activation. The median length of stay
(LOS) after Habib
TM
VesCoag therapy was two days and
there were no cases of post-procedure liver function
deterioration.
The Habib
TM
VesCoag has been proven in
clinical studies to be effective in treating liver
cancer when used in combination with
chemoembolisation. It reduces the risk of
embolic material complications seen in
current techniques and allows for precise
occlusion of a vessel.
