3. For this warm up, you don´t need to prepare slides.

INTRODUCTION
Good afternoon everyone. Thanks for being here. It is a pleasure to welcome you today. As
you probably know, my name is Alex Tapia, I am a ESPOL Civil Engineering student. I am
in the fourth semester. Today I am going to talk about my professional career and its
importance in the development of Ecuadorian society. From my point of view, this topic is
very relevant to let you know the role that Civil Engineering plays in the area of sustainable
and intelligent construction in our country.
OUTLINE
I’ll be covering three main points:
First, civil engineering as an area of better operation and installation of Ecuadorian
constructions and structures.
Second, the calculation and design of the resistance and durability of the Ecuadorian
establishments by the civil engineer to ensure the safety of individuals.
Third, maintenance and quality control of national buildings as an essential point in the
community regulations of civil engineering.
BODY
First A field focused on improving and developing Ecuadorian construction techniques.
 Management of construction projects.
 Construction supervision.
 Solution of emerging civil problems.
I think that Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that is responsible for the design,
construction, and improvement of public and private infrastructures such as buildings, roads,
bridges, airports, ports, and water and energy systems, among others. Civil engineers in
Ecuador are trained to plan and manage construction projects effectively, ensuring projects
are completed on time and on budget. This implies the coordination of different work teams,
the selection of materials and providers, the identification and solution of unexpected
problems during the construction process, and the guarantee of construction quality.

Second The safety of Ecuadorians depends on the calculation and design of the
resistance and durability of buildings where they interact daily.
 Physical and mechanical principles.
 Structural design.
 Geotechnical analysis.
I believe that Civil engineers in Ecuador are trained to carry out many activities in the
construction area and apply the principles of physics and mechanics (such as concepts of
statics, summation of forces, bodies in equilibrium or distortion of the elements) to design
resistant and durable structures, and the calculation of distribution and concentration of loads
and rigid bodies and efforts in construction materials. This includes the evaluation of the
conditions of the ground and the rock (which is known as Geotechnics), the selection of
materials in good condition and the realization of precise calculations for the design and
construction of foundations and retaining walls that guarantee the safety and stability of the
structures.
Third In the regulations of civil engineering, the maintenance and quality control of
national buildings is a crucial aspect that cannot be overlooked by the community.
 Constant maintenance of buildings.
 Renovation of very worn structures.
 Quality control tests.
It seems to me that Civil engineers in Ecuador are also responsible for the maintenance and
repair of existing buildings and structures. This involves the identification and solution of
structural problems, the evaluation of the integrity and durability of the materials, the
implementation of security measures and the renovation of old or deteriorated structures. In
addition, they regularly monitor building construction to ensure that design plans and
specifications are followed. This includes quality inspection of materials, construction quality
control, and verification of standards and regulations.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, civil engineering plays a significant role in sustainable and intelligent
construction in Ecuador. Civil engineers are responsible for improving and developing
construction techniques, managing construction projects effectively, ensuring the safety of
individuals through the calculation and design of resistant and durable structures, and
maintaining and controlling the quality of national buildings. Therefore, the work of civil
engineers is essential to the development of the country's infrastructure and the safety of its
citizens. It is crucial to continue investing in civil engineering education and research to
ensure that Ecuador remains at the forefront of sustainable and intelligent construction
practices.
Finally, I’d like to thank you for listening to me today and I hope my presentation has given
you a better understanding of the Civil engineering importance in the development of
Ecuadorian society. Thank you everyone so much.
