Introduction

The aim of this proposal is to provide recommendations for helping

companies to improve the implantation of healthy food at the workplace. The
ideas presented in this document can help create a healthy and more efficient
work environment for the staff and the corporates.

Current situation

There is an urgent need for information among the corporates, who know very
little about nutrition. Furthermore most of them have never developed an
health plan, which results in them having unbalanced menu in the company
restaurant. While the cafeteria’s and coffee bars surrounding the office areas
are popular, they do not have a wide selection of healthy meals or snacks
within their restaurant.

Recommendations

It would be advantageous to offer healthy food choices onsite.

Small changes to your workplace environment can make a big difference to
people’s’ eating habits. Keep vending machines stocked with healthier
choices or supply a subsidised communal fruit bowl.

Order healthy for breakfast or lunch meetings. Providing your employees a

meal is a common way of creating a sense of community or celebrating the
end of a project but too often the food on offer is not the best. So try
rewarding your team by ordering something highly nutritious.

Encourage staff to drink more water. We’re constantly reminded of the

importance of keeping hydrated. Place jugs of water around the office and
incentivise staff to drink throughout the day. Or better still? Company water
bottles!

Conclusion

While it's most important for an employer to provide a safe and healthy
workplace, it's also important to encourage healthy lifestyles among their
employees. Offering healthy eating programs can be an important step.

Together healthy eating and active living combined with a positive outlook can

lead to:

 Reduced risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer.

 Elevated mood, energy and self-esteem.
 Reduced anxiety and stress.
 Opportunities to spend enjoyable time with family and friends.
 Productive employee
