Flanges must always be connected perpendicular to the axis of the pipe. It should be remembered that GRE flanges are thicker than the steel flanges ~ bolts should be ordered accordingly. 1, Tools Tools necessary for assembly of lange joints 2, Ring spanner with required bolt head size ». Torque wrench with required socket size with calibration certificate 2. Bolts and Nuts Bolts should be wire brushed and lubricated before being used. Failure to clean the botts will result in insufficient intial tension in the flange bolts ‘which could resut in movement of the flange during operating Conditions. Washer and nuts shall be clean thoroughly. Referon installation man 3 4.2. Flanged joints: Fiberglass flanges must always be installed tension free; therefore flanges must be accurately aligned. Pipelines must never be pulled by means of the flange bots, If the GRE line is connected to a metal ine, this metal ine must be anchored to prevent any movements or loads being transmitted to the GRE line. On the GRE side of the flanged joint the bolts and nuts must have washers to avoid excessive surface pressure. ‘+ Clean propetly the flange face, holes and gasket + Inspect the gasket for any defect prior to be installed. Place the ‘gasket in position. Make sure that the holes of the gasket and the flanges are aligned. + Position the other flange to be assembled to the GRE flange in the Fight place. Make sure that the holes of the two flanges are aligned and leveled + Insert the stud bolts in the holes, Bolts threads shall be clean and lubricated to attain proper torque. 1+ Number each slud Lott starting from the top and following a clockwise sequence. ~ + Hand tightens all the nuts. 036MENIGRE/DEC Rev3 page 3 of 10 —=— ee snrscaante Jeewem | 1.3 Gaskets and Torques [As sealing for GRE flanges, several gaskets types may be used as per ‘approved isvspecificatin, ~ IMPORTANT NOTE When assembling GRE flanges, bolts should be tightened by hand fist, then using a forque wrench up to 30% of the max. torque values shown in fable 1. If leakages occur, torques should be increased up fo 60% of the max. torque values shown in table 1. Max. torque values are Urtimate and should be avoided under normal site conditions. “The following table shows the Maximum torque values (measured in N.m) for ‘ightening the GRE flanges. The maximum torque values are given against the Test pressure and the Diameter ofthe pipeline, Pine | Maximum Torgue |. sximum roraue parc | Velurforasa so | Vatiefor ASA00 3036MENGREIDEC Revd page 4 of 19 Ti FOP ecusnes | METHOD STATEMENT 3036/MFIIGRE/DEC | Fusnce Jowr | 1.4 Trouble Sho« 15 If assembled joint leaks, loosen and remove all the bolts, nuts, washers ‘and gaskets. Check for alignment of assembly. Rebuild to correct aignment as required. Check the gasket for camage. if damaged, discard and replace with new, undamaged gasket I leak occur as a result of deficiencies in non-fibergiass components of the piping system, consult the manufacture’ for the defective components for recommended corrective procedures. Clean and lubricate old threads and washers betore rejoining. Repeat the joining procedure outlined above. ralase - Flange Torque Sequence: ‘Tightening of the bolts of a flange must be done diagonally according to the sequence as shown in figures below. Bolts in flanges must be placed on either side ofthe centre line unless otherwise specifies. 30Y6MEY/GREIDEC Rev3 page Sof 10 ees — | | FPL Merton Sraremenr 3036/MFIIGREDEC | rerun PESTS | ELawce Jom Rev.
