It states that Japanese landscape art developed later than Chinese landscape art, which was influenced by Buddhism. While Japan has Shintoism, their religious sects also incorporate ritual and symbols. possibly have. The japanese landscape art was two-hundred years later than the sung landscape art which was the only expression of zen in the far east and the expression of buddhism they have they're religion in shintoism they have their various religious sexts which are full of ritual and symbols and so on but they do have and there is a certain element of this in christianity too. of a non domactic non symbolic umm uh um aI wouldn't call it religioni'd just call it uhh a-a-aapproach to the universe .uh I mean they're not worshiping anybody particularly but this is the way they want to respond to the universe with the maximum of sensibility with the greatest perception of thee sort of the mystery within the explained and uh understood worldI mean again this is making the best of both worlds to understand and to label and to classify but then behind the labels to perceive the fathomless mystery of existence which is the the whole essence of zen it seems to me. And in this respect i would feel that this uh approach to the fathomless mystery is far better than the vidanta or the hinyana approach which consists of this hmm mm contemplation which is intense concentration therefore th almost universal exclussion of everything the whole point of later uh mayana uhh doctrine is that it includes things it itit permits you to live in the world but perceiving the absolute perceiving nivana not outside the world as the as it does in the hinyana tradition but perceiving it within it and realizing it in acts of work and love. I mean i don't I don't know any higher ideal of life than that. it seems to touch on every level on the ethical on the philosophic on the artistic."
