EXPERIMENT ON FLOW RATE

Objective: Determine the flow rate and speed of the water coming out from a water

fountain.

The amount of water (in terms of volume) that comes out a

water outlet per unit of time is known as volumetric flow rate. In
equation:

The speed of the water that flow out the faucet is determined by
the formula:

OBSERVATIONS:

For 250 ml

For 500 ml

As we observed in this experiment, the time that we filled up the 250 ml bottle was
much faster than the 500 ml bottle. Hence, the smaller the volume you have to fill up, the
shorter the time it takes for it to be filled up, and the larger the volume you have to fill up, the
longer the time it takes for it to be filled up. And as we calculated the volumetric flow rate
and the speed, we identified that as time increases, the flow rate and the speed decrease, and
when the time is shorter, the flow rate and the speed are higher. The time, volume, diameter,
cross-sectional area, flow rate, and speed are interconnected to each other.

CONCLUSION:

After completing the experiment, we conclude that the time, the volume of the bottle,
and even the diameter and the cross-sectional area of the water outlet will determine the
flow rate and speed of the flowing water. The cross-sectional area or the C. Area indicated in
2
πd
the tables above will be calculated using this formula with a unit of m2 . After
A=
4
getting the C. Area, you can now calculate the volumetric flow rate or simply Flow Rate as
V
shown in the tables. The needed formula for Flow Rate is J = , and the unit for this is
t
m3
. And lastly, to calculate the speed of the flowing water out of the faucet, you must use
s
J m
the formula v = with a unit of . The data we gathered in this investigation are
A s
interrelated to each other since we cannot get the measurement of one another if there is a
missing item or component.
