A clay pot used for storing and cooking food

Barong Tagalog
A traditional formal wear for men made from piña,
abaca, or jusi. It was worn by Filipinos during the
Spanish Colonial period as a symbol of nationalism

Arnis
A martial art that uses sticks, knives, and other
weapons. It was originally developed as a form
of self-defense by Filipinos during the Spanish
Colonial period.

Lantaka
A bronze cannon used by Filipinos in the pre-
colonial era, and later adapted during the
Spanish Colonial period. The lantaka was

SP used in battles against the Spanish


colonizers.

Bandala
A traditional Filipino fishing net made from bamboo
and rattan. The bandala was widely used by Filipino
SP fishermen during the Spanish Colonial period and is
still used today.

Tuba
A traditional alcoholic beverage made from the sap
of the coconut tree. Tuba was widely consumed by

SP Filipinos during the Spanish Colonial period and is still


popular today.

Jeepney
A modified military jeep used for public
transportation. The jeepney was originally made from
surplus US military jeeps left over from World War II
and has since become an iconic mode of

Kalesa
A horse-drawn carriage used for transportation. The
kalesa was introduced to the Philippines during the
American Colonial period and was widely used in urban
AP areas as a means of transportation.

Salakot
A traditional hat made from woven bamboo or
rattan. During the American Colonial period,
Filipinos began to incorporate decorative
elements into the design of the salakot, making it a

AP symbol of cultural identity and resistance against


colonial oppression.

San Miguel Beer


A popular brand of beer in the Philippines. San
Miguel Brewery was founded during the
American Colonial period and became one of

AP the largest breweries in Southeast Asia.

Philippine Airlines
The flag carrier airline of the Philippines. Philippine
Airlines was founded during the American Colonial
AP period and is the oldest airline in Asia operating under
its original name.

Erythromycin
An antibiotic used to treat various bacterial
infections. Erythromycin was discovered by Filipino
scientist Abelardo Aguilar in 1949 while working with

MP American researcher Robert Woodward.

Karaoke
A form of entertainment where people sing
along to recorded music using a microphone
and a display screen. Karaoke was invented by
Filipino inventor Roberto del Rosario in 1975.

Jeane Napoles' Digital Invention


An electronic purse with a built-in calculator and a
memory device for storing financial data. The

Philippine political scene.

Hydrotech Wind Turbine


A vertical-axis wind turbine that generates electricity
from wind power. The Hydrotech Wind Turbine was

MP invented by Filipino engineer Rolando Ramoneda in


2005.
