Language, a term that is defined as the principal method of human communication,

consisting of words, structures, and gestures. Dear fellow learners and teachers,
greetings to you all. I am Shruti Chand of year 13-01 and it is my heartwarming
pleasure to speak on the beauty of exploring different languages.
Federico Fellini once said and I quote;
“A different language is a different vision of life” unquote. As someone who
speaks more than a language, I can attest the joy and fulfillment that comes from
using different personalities. Yes, different personalities. The beauty of language
holds on the root that no language by near to the other. Each has its own accent,
pronunciation, gestures, tone, rhythm, and whatnot. The amusing part is that
despite the differences, some languages are connected through homonymous words
between them such as “kurti” in Hindi is referred to an outfit whereas “kurti” in i-
taukei is referred to a kettle.

Exploring different languages allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the

world around us. Each language has its own unique history, culture, and way of
thinking. Charlemagne believed and I quote
“to have another language is to possess a second soul” unquote. When we learn a
new language, we not only gain a new set of words and grammar rules, but we also
gain insight into the way that people from that culture view the world.

Learning a new language can be a fulfilling and enriching experience. It challenges

our minds and helps us develop cognitive skills, such as improved memory,
attention, and problem-solving abilities. It also broadens our horizons and extends
beyond personal growth and development. In todays globalized world, knowing
multiple languages can be a valuable asset in the workplace. It can lead to more job
opportunities, higher salaries, and greater career advancement.
But, perhaps the most beautiful thing about exploring different languages is the
opportunity it gives us to connect with people from all over the world. As
explained, language is a window to different cultures and people. When we learn a
new language, we open ourselves up to new experiences and new friendships. We
can travel to new places and feel confident communicating with locals.
Ladies and Gentleman,
I urge you all to embrace the beauty of exploring different languages whether it is
to enhance your personal growth and development, to further your career, or
simply for the joy of learning. Before leaving I’d like to have over a quote by
Geoffrey Williams and I quote “you can never understand one language until you
understand at least two”. Hence there is no better time than now to begin your
language-learning journey. Thank you, vinaka vakalevu, shukriya in every other
language you asset.
