EXP 6 Fundamentals of Kinematics
EXP 6 Fundamentals of Kinematics
STUDY OF FUNDAMENTALS OF
KINEMATICS AND KINETICS OF PARTICLES
Aim: To understand the simple dynamic variables involving kinematics, energy and
momentum
T= Tension in cable
vi) ENERGY: The energy of a body is its capacity of doing work. Various types
of energy:
Mechanical Energy
Electrical Energy
Thermal Energy
Chemical Energy
Nuclear Energy
vii) LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MOMENTUM:
When sum of the impulses due to external forces is zero then the momentum
of the system remains constant.
Or
“If no external force is acting then total momentum of the system remains
unchanged”.
Before collision,
Momentum of mass ma = m1 v1
Momentum of mass mb = m2 v2
Total Momentum = m1 v1 + m2 v2
⚫ The law of conservation of momentum requires that, the total momentum
before the collision must be equal to the total momentum after the
collision.
So,
m1 v1 + m2 v2 = m1 v01 + m2 v02
Exercise: Answer the following Questions.
1) Define kinematics and kinetics according to your thought.
2) Define Energy and Momentum.
3) Explain the law of conservation of momentum.
4) Give example of General plane motion.
