Sample Paper 6
Class – X Exam 2021-22 (TERM – II)
Mathematics Standard (041)
Time Allowed: 120 minutes Maximum Marks: 40
General Instructions:
1. The question paper consists of 14 questions divided into 3 sections A, B, C.
2. All questions are compulsory.
3. Section A comprises of 6 questions of 2 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in two questions.
4. Section B comprises of 4 questions of 3 marks each. Internal choice has been provided in one question.
5. Section C comprises of 4 questions of 4 marks each. An internal choice has been provided in one question. It
contains two case study based questions.

2. The fifth term of an AP is 26 and its 10th term is

SECTION A 51. Find the AP
 Ans :
Let the first term be a , common difference be d and
1. If 2 is a root of the equation x2 + kx + 12 = 0 and
n th term be an .
the equation x2 + kx + q = 0 has equal roots, find
the value of q . a5 = a + 4d = 26 ...(1)
 Ans : a10 = a + 9d = 51 ...(2)
Subtracting (1) from (2) we have
We have x2 + kx + 12 = 0 5d = 25 & d = 5
If 2 is the root of above equation, it must satisfy it. Substituting this value of d in equation
^2h2 + 2k + 12 = 0 (1) we get a = 6 .
Hence, the AP is 6, 11, 16, ....
, 2k + 16 = 0
k =− 8
3. In figure, O is the centre of a circle. PT are
Substituting k =− 8 in x2 + kx + q = 0 tangents to the circle from an external point P . If
we have +TPQ = 70c, find +TRQ .
x 2 − 8x + q = 0
For equal roots,
^- 8h2 - 4 ^1 h q = 0
64 - 4q = 0
4q = 64 & q = 16
 O
Find the positive root of 3x2 + 6 = 9 .
 Ans :  Ans :
We redraw the given figure by joining O to T and
We have 3x2 + 6 = 9 Q as shown below.
3x2 + 6 = 81
3x2 = 81 − 6 = 75
x2 = 75 = 25
3
Thus x =! 5
Hence 5 is positive root.

 Ans :
Let AB be the tower and ships are at points C

6. Taking M as centre and MO as radius, draw

a circle. Let it intersect the given circle at the
points Q and R .
7. Join PQ and PR .
Then, PQ and PR are the required two tangents.
Justification :
Now in TABC we have If we join OQ and OR , +PQO is an angle in the
semicircle and, therefore,
tan 45c = AB
AC +PQO = 90c
PQ = OQ
AB = 1 & AB = BC
Since OQ is a radius of the given circle,
AC
PQ has to be a tangent to the circle. Similarly, PR

Find the volume of water left in the cylinder in

3 AB + CD
 Ans :
AB + CD = 3 AB
Volume of water in cylinder is equal to the volume
CD = AB ( 3 − 1) of cylinder. Thus

Distance between two ships is 73.2 m. πr2 h = π ^60h2 # 180

A glass is in the shape of a cylinder of radius 7 cm AB . Thus Triangle ∆OCB is also right angled
and height 10 cm. Find the volume of juice in litre triangle,
required to fill 6 such glasses. Use π = 227 We have PB = 24 cm, OP = 26 cm.
Triangle ∆OPB is right angled triangle because PB
 Ans : is tangent at radius OB and +OPB = 90c.
In right angled ∆OPB , we have
Radius of the glass r = 7 cm
Height of the glass h = 10 cm OB = OP2 − BP2 = 262 − 242

Volume of 1 glass, = 676 − 576 = 100 = 10 cm

Since perpendicular drawn from the centre to a
πr2 h = 22 # 7 # 7 # 10 chord bisect it, we have

BC = 1 AB = 16 = 8 cm

Volume of juice to fill 6 glasses, Now in TOBC,O
C2 = OB2 − BC2

6πr h = 6 # 1540 = 9240 cm 3

Volume in litre = 9240 = 9.240 litre. OC = 6 cm

Thus distance of the chord from the centre

10-15 12 24 + a
 Ans :
15-20 15 39 + a
(i) Let x represent the number of Rs 10 fare
20-25 b 39 + a + b increases. Then 70 + 10x is the price per
25-30 6 45 + a + b passenger and 300 - 20x is the number of
passengers.
30-35 6 51 + a + b The income is the number of passengers
35-40 4 55 + a + b multiplied by the price per ticket. Let I (x)
represent income as a function of x .
/ f i = 70
Now I (x) = (300 − 20x) (70 + 10x)
We have, / f i = 70 = 20 (15 − x) (10) (7 + x)
55 + a + b = 70 = 200 (105 + 8x − x2)

a + b = 15 ...(1) =− 200 (x2 − 8x − 105)

Now Median = 16 =− 200 (x2 − 8x + 16 − 16 − 105)

So median class will be 15-20 as 16 lies in 15-20
We have l = 15 , F = 24 + a , f = 15 , N = 70 , h = 5 =− 200 (x2 − 8x + 16 − 121)
