EXPERIMENT # 1: FINGERPRINT FUMING USING SUPERGLUE

ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE ACTIVITY:

 Big Box Transparent

 Candle with Holder
 Flat Heating dish or Tin Foil
 Glue with “Cyanocrylate” ingredient – Mighty Bond
 Fined Charcoal
 Objects with Latent Fingerprints
2 PERSONAL IDENTIFICTION TECHNIQUE LABORATORY

PROCEDURE:

The first thing to do is mold the tin foil on a cut plastic bottle to make a DIY heating dish. Find any object
in which the latent print can be grasped. Rub the hands and press the fingertip on any surface of the
object(glass). The next step is to place the candle with a holder inside the transparent box along with the
object containing a latent print. Add the glue with Cyanoacrylate to the heating dish in a significant
amount of 8-10 droplets. After lighting up the candle, place the heating dish on top of it and close the
transparent box with the cover. There’s no certain time on the waiting period because there are
instances where the candle loses fire due to the lack of oxygen. Yet, there are indications where the
fingerprint on the box becomes quite visible, such as the moisture on the transparent box. But it’s not
yet over since the fingerprint is not very visible, therefore, the fined charcoal will applies to the
fingerprint impressions on the glass. Brush it gently and in circular motion to not destroy the fingerprint.
