Before we proceed in our discussion, let us

first have a quick game to waken your mind!
Our game is called “What’s He/She Doing ?!”

Activity : What’s He Doing?!

Here is our game mechanics. I will present a
clip-scene of an anime and your role is to
describe in one word what the character in
the video is doing. Okay, is that clear? Let’s
Yes Ma’am
start!

For our first clip, what do you think Usagi is

doing?

Transforming

I can see that a lot of you are familiar with

this anime. Now, let’s see if your answers are
correct.

The answer is Transforming. Very good class!

Now let us have another clip-scene. What do
you think Zenitsu did in this scene?
Scaped

Alright, let’s check if your answers are

correct. Great Job! It is Scaped.

And for the last one. What do you think

Misaki is doing in this?

Confessing

I can see all your answers in the chat box.

Let’s see if it's correct. The answer is
Confessing. Good job everyone! Give yourself
a warm applause.

C. Presentation

In the answers that you gave when we were The answers are verbs ma’am
playing the game, what have you noticed?

And what is a verb? Can someone explain to Verb is a word used to describe an action,
me what verbs are? state, or occurrence.

That’s correct! Did all of you read the article Yes ma’am!
that I sent you last time?

Very Good! Now, since we know what a verb

is. Let us proceed with our lesson. Our topic
today is about Verbs and its Principals

D. Lesson Proper
So a verb is a word that expresses some A subject or noun ma’am
action, feeling, or existence. It is also a word
we used to describe an action of what?

Correct! It is the key word in any sentence.

Therefore a sentence must always have a
verb.
Action Verbs, these are verbs that show
There are two large classes of verbs: what action and show ownership. The other one is
are those? And tell me what they do. the Linking Verbs, these are what we call
state-of-being verbs like am, is, and are.

Great answer! That is correct! Aside from

that, what are the verbs that when put It is the helping verbs that is often used with
together form a verb phrase? Anyone? the main verb to give the exact meaning of
the action.
Very Good! I can see that most of you have a
prior understanding of the verbs. And all of
you must remember that in a verb phrase,
the main verb determines whether the
phrase is action or linking.

Here are the action, linking, helping, and

main verbs. You may screenshot this.

Now every verb has four principal parts.

Activity 1: Take notes and answer after the
video.

I will play a video that will help us have a

glimpse of what the Principal parts of verbs
are. I want you all to take notes, and listen
attentively to the video. All clear? Okay let’s
proceed
The Present Tense and The Past Tense

The present tense is a verb that describes

something that is currently going on.

In the video what are the tenses of verbs that

were mentioned? (Students will give an example)

Excellent! Now what is a present tense?

A past tense is a word that describes
something that happened in the past.
Very Good! Therefore A verb that relates to
the present moment is assumed to be in the
present tense or what we call present verb
form. Could anyone give me an example of
the present tense? By adding d or -ed in the word that we wish
to become a past tense
Good Job!How about the past tense? What
do you think it is?

Great answer! So, a grammatical tense called

the past tense is used to convey information Present Participle and Past Participle
about events that happened in the past or
how something was in the past. How? By
adding what class? The form of the verb that in English ends in
-ing.
Very Good! It seems that all of you really
listened well. However, in the video, only two
principles of verbs were mentioned. And we
have four of them. What are the other two?
Does anyone know ? State-of-being helping verb

Excellent! The other two are Present a participle that expresses completed action
Participle and Past Participle . What is a
Present Participle?

You got a point there! As what Akiza said,

Present Participle is a verb that ends in ing. By also adding d or ed
Also it is used with a verb to form a
progressive tense. What kind of verb is that?

Good answer! Then what about the Past

Participle?

Very Good! It is a Participle that indicates a

finished action that can be used to form Regular Verbs Ma’am
perfect verb phrases and a passive voice.
How do we form a Past Participle?

Correct! However, in Past Participle when we

use it in the active voice we always use it with No Ma’am
a form of have as a helping verb. But in the
passive voice we use a form of be. Take note
of that class.
Now what do you think is called to verbs that
could be changed this way?

Correct! Verbs that could be changed by

simply adding -ing, -ed, or -d are regular
verbs. And do all regular verbs end with a
consonant?

Very good! Since we form the present We double the consonant before adding ing
participle, past, and past participle of a verb or ed. So can will be canning or canned.
by adding the suffixes ing and ed, we must
also learn the rules for adding these suffixes
that begin with vowels. Remember: The letter We double the consonant only if the accent
“y” is also considered a vowel. falls on the last syllable.

How do you think we can form a present For example, in the word level the accent in
participle, past, and past participle in a one level falls in vel’, therefore we do not double
syllable word that ends in a consonant with a the last consonant and just add ing or ed.
single vowel before it? Like this word “can”.
We drop the e before adding ing or ed
Great answer! Now how about a word of
more than one syllable and ends in a
consonant with a single vowel before it?

That is correct! Could you please give me an

example of it? We change the y to i before adding ing or ed
Excellent! If a word ends in e, how do we add
ing or ed? No ma’am. We only add ing or ed

Very Good! For example in the word accuse

we drop the letter e in the end and add ing or
ed after. It will be accusing and accused.
What if a word ends in y with a consonant
before it? What do we do?

And if a word ends in y with a vowel before it.

Do we change the y to i?

Very Good Class! I can see that all of you did

read the article that I sent you about the
principals of verbs.
State-of-being helping verbs ma’am
Now that we know the rules in how to form
regular verbs into present participle, past,
and past participle let us now find out how With have, has, or had
we form the irregular verbs into these
principles.

Just like regular verbs, present participles of

irregular verbs are used with a what? There’s a change in the ending ma’am

Correct! And in past participles of irregular There is a change in the vowel and the ending
verbs we use it with what?
They have the same form in the present, past,
Good answer! I will present a few irregular and past participle.
verbs.

What do you notice in the picture? To not confuse us if the verb is regular or not.

What else?

Anyone else have another answer?

All of your answers are correct. These are

what we call irregularities and unlike regular
verbs in the form of principles Irregular verbs
must be memorized. Why?

Very good! And here are the principal parts of

the irregular verbs. You all are required to They tell us the time of the action.
memorize this.

Verb tense refers to when the action in a

sentence takes place

Alright! We have known the principal parts of

verbs both in regular and irregular forms.
What do you think the principal parts of
verbs do?

Correct! And all these principal parts are

what we use to make tenses. What is a tense Simple tenses-Present, Past, and Future
or what is a verb tense? Perfect tenses-Present Perfect, Past Perfect,
and Future Perfect.
Very good! Verb tenses indicate when the
action in a sentence occurs.—whether it
happened in the past, is happening in the Present verb form
present, or will happen in the future. Every
verb has six tenses to express time in the
present, past, and future. There are three
simple tenses and three perfect tenses. Does
anyone in the class know what they are?

That’s correct! However today we will only The verbs were added s
tackle the simple tenses. In the Present tense
what verb do we use to form it? The verbs ending in a consonant and y
changes the y to i and es.
Good job! Just like here in these examples
you could see that the present tense uses the
present principal part. In present tense they
have rules about the third person singular. It is expressing an action that has not yet
What are these? Take a look at this picture happened or a state that does not yet exist.
and tell me what you notice in the words.

Very good! the verbs that are ending in sh or

ch add es. What else?

Excellent job in noticing that! And again a

present tense tells us an action that is
currently going on. What about the future
tense?
Correct! And also is formed from the present We use the past principal part to form a past
verb form, but we add shall or will to show tense.
future time. Like these examples.

Lastly we have past tense. We are already

familiar with what is past tense so let us
proceed on how the past tense is formed.
What do you think? How do we form a past
tense?

Well done class! Just like these examples,

remember that the past principal part of a Yes Ma’am!
regular verb ends in ed, but we must
memorize the past principal part of irregular
verbs.

Now that we know the principles of verbs and

how to make simple tenses let’s do a short
activity
Activity 2: Find me!
This activity is called Find Me! A music video
will be played. What you are going to do is
find words of principal parts of verbs and
identify if the verb is regular or irregular. Are
you ready?

Alright! Let’s Start!

Very Good Class! I can see that all of you did a

good job in recognizing all the principles of
verbs. Keep It up!

Activity 3: What You See is What You Write Yes Ma’am!

Let’s have another activity! This activity is
called What You See is What You Write. In
this activity a scene picture from a
movie/series will be presented. What you are
going to do is write a sentence about the
picture and a simple tense that is formed
from the principal parts of the verb must be
present. Then, you will put your answers in
the Jamboard Link. Is that clear?
Okay, let’s start!

The First Picture is from the Movie Avengers

End Game and the characters in this picture
are both Captain America. You may start
constructing your sentence now.

The second picture is from the Netflix series

XO Kitty and the characters in this picture are
the female lead Kitty and the male lead Dae.

The next picture is from the movie The Super

MArio Bros. The character here is Bowser,
the main antagonist of the movie.

This picture is from the hit filipino teleserye

that is entitled Maria Clara at Ibarra. The
characters here are the star-crossed lovers
Klay and fidel.

film Your Name. If you are an avid fan of
anime, this is probably in your watched or to
be watch list.

Now let’s check your answers. Very Good

class! I can see that everyone did attentively
listen during our discussions. Keep up the
good work!

This is the end of our lesson. Do you have any

Because they tells us what the subject of the

Do you agree with the statement that verb is

the key word in a sentence?

Why?

Okay. So a sentence cannot function without

a noun?

Well done, class! Now, I think you guys are

ready. Let us now proceed to our main
activity. I will group your class into four, and
each group will have an activity (Students will go to their respective breakout
room)
F. Application
Group Activity: Rewriting
Students will be grouped into four groups,
and every group will write one paragraph
about any topic. The only requirement is that
they must use a part of verbs in every
sentence of the paragraph and they will pass
that to the next group. When all the
paragraph have been given to each group
they can now start rewriting their paragraphs
using the same information, but this time
they must form a simple tense.

Who will be the leader of Group 1 …

Great job, everyone!
