SCHOOL ASSEMBLY EMCEE WORKSHOP

A. BEFORE THE ASSEMBLY


1. Practice your script, but do not sound like you are reading.
 Take note of words that you are not familiar with.
 Prepare a list of common vocabulary and phrases that you can use in a pinch.
(e.g. sentence connectors)

2. Be alert
Before the event, confirm with the teacher-in-charge the following details:
 The names of administrators who will be present.
 The names of people giving speeches during the assembly.
 Any events that need to be conducted (e.g. prize-giving ceremony for a
competition – note down name of competition).
 Any extra announcements that need to be made.

B. DURING THE ASSEMBLY


1. Speak clearly and confidently in a constant and moderate pace.
 Do not speak too fast, use a constant and moderate speed.
 Do not swallow your words, especially your “s”.
 Do not speak in a too low or too high voice.
 Echoes in the hall/assembly area may affect your voice.

2. Do not panic if you say something wrong.


 Say: “I’m sorry, please allow me to repeat that.” OR “Pardon me for the mistake.”

3. Be prepared
 Always keep an eye out for sudden changes.
 You might need to skip a part of your script, or add in a few additional sentences
according to the situation.
 Make sure you have a pen or pencil and your script ready to make these
changes.

C. AFTER THE ASSEMBLY


1. Post-mortem / reflection
 Discuss with your emcee partner about the aspects that both of you need to improve on.
