Worksheet No. 6

Grade Level/Section:________________________________________________

I. LEARNING SKILLS
A. Most Essential Learning Competency
Uses sources according to ethical standards (at least 4-6 local and international
sources).
B. Objective
Uses sources according to ethical standards (at least 4-6 local and international
sources).CS_RS11-lllf-j-4.

II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

Primary sources are original materials on which other research is based.

Secondary sources are those that describe or analyze primary sources.
Tertiary sources are those used to organize and locate secondary and
primary sources.
Ethical standards these are systematic rules and principles governing right
conduct in doing research especially in citing and acknowledging
sources.

It is important to follow ethical standards by citing the sources you used in your
research for several reasons:
 To show your reader you've done proper research by listing sources you used
to get your information
 To be a responsible scholar by giving credit to other researchers and
acknowledging their ideas
 To avoid plagiarism by quoting words and ideas used by other authors
 To allow your reader to track down the sources you used by citing them
accurately in your paper by way of footnotes, a bibliography or reference list

Example of using sources according to ethical standards:

Music has also been proven to increase the IQ of children when engaging in
practical music making (Hallam,2008;Jenkins,2001;Kokotsaki and Hallam,2011). With
that it can be said that music can really affect a person’s task performance. In fact,
some studies have come to the conclusion that music, especially classical, aids in the
storage and recall of information in our memory (Berz,1995).

Foreign and local literature are part of your review of related literature. As much
as possible there should be a balance between these two. Just like related literature
and related studies, in the discussion part of RRL, you may combine foreign and local
literature and studies so long as you have arranged them thematically, chronologically,
methodological or theoretical.
Whether foreign or local studies or literature, researching entails including
various sources such as:
1. Primary sources are original materials on which other research is based,
including:
o original written works – poems, diaries, court records, interviews,
surveys, and original research/fieldwork, and
o research published in scholarly/academic journals.
2. Secondary sources are those that describe or analyze primary sources,
including:
o reference materials – dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks
o books and articles that interpret, review, or synthesize original
research/fieldwork.
3. Tertiary sources are those used to organize and locate secondary and primary
sources.
o Indexes – provide citations that fully identify a work with information such
as author, titles of a book, artile, and/or journal, publisher and publication
date, volume and issue number and page numbers.
o Abstracts – summarize the primary or secondary sources,
o Databases – are online indexes that usually include abstracts for each
primary or secondary resource, and may also include a digital copy of
the resource.
