CHAPTER FOUR

SYSTEM ANALYSIS

4.0 Overview

The farmers vet linkage system is a web application that aims at helping farmers link with their

preferred vets depending on locality and availability time range to get instant services thus

decreasing animals’ mortality rate and hence increasing productivity. This chapter gives a brief

description of the farmers vet linkage system. Moreover, discusses the functional and non-

functional requirement of the current Farmers vet linkage system and a summary on what’s

covered and new insights.

4.1 Feasibility Study

Feasibility Study is a preliminary investigation that helps the management to take decision about

whether study of system should be feasible for development or not (Fakih, A., 2017).

The feasibility study that was carried out on the farmers vet linkage system showed that all the

existing systems were meant for a specific clinic with its specified services and a vet with fixed

availability time range and location.

There exist different parameters of feasibility study which includes:

4.1.1 Legal feasibility

Legal feasibility involves verifying the legal visibility of a system for example government

regulation and copyright issues (Adamu, A., 2020). farmers vet linkage system uses open-source

software thus there are minimal regulation issues.

4.1.2 Economic Feasibility

Economic Feasibility is the most frequent feasibility used to check the effectiveness of a system

(Lokugama, K, 2021). The most common used in farmers vet linkage system economic

feasibilities are cost and benefit analysis to check the benefits of the system while determining

the cost.

4.1.3 Cultural feasibility

Cultural feasibility of the project is evaluated to test their impact on the local general culture

based on environmental factors (Bradley, V., 2020). farmers vet linkage system gives users

access privileges based on the organizations culture.

4.2 Overall description of the current farmers vet linkage system.

The available systems are based on a single vet clinic with fixed availability time range and area

of service. Moreover, the single vet clinic has set the specific services to be offered thus limiting

the farmers. Upon the first linkage, the local farmers tend to treat that vet like the only existing

vet since they contact him or her at any other time that they need the services even when he

himself is unavailable. This makes it appear like the service providers are rare while there is an

urgency in the services. However, a lot of vet officers graduate every year and may be living

only a few blocks away from the farmer in need of their service without his or her

comprehension.

4.2.1 Current Farmers vet linkage system Context Diagram

The context diagram defines as the highest level that represent the entire system. There are three

external entities which are animal’s owner, veterinarian and administrator. The animal’s owner
needs to give their personal details and animal details to the system after they have registered or

login to the system. Once successful into the animal’s owner own page, they can make animal

appointment, view animal treatment information and can view the free information of their

animal treatment. For veterinarian can give treatment information and diagnosis information

based on animal detail and their historical treatment or diagnosis information. The administrator

will provide their appointment information, medicine detail, fee information and also can get the

report about all information.

4.2.2 Current Data flow diagram for farmers vet linkage system.
There are 9 main processes, 9 main tables of the database and their relationship for overall

system. The process begins with registration of animal’s owner.

Then, animal’s owner, veterinarian and administrator need to login to use the system. Animal’s

owner able to manage animal registration and can make appointment. Then, the administrator

will manage the appointment and the veterinarian will provide the treatment and diagnosis of the

animal. The medicine will be provided by an administrator and the fee information of the
treatment. The administrator can be able to see report of animal information, treatment and

diagnosis information. Besides, the animal’s owner can view the treatment of their animal

history
4.3 Requirement Gathering

It’s the practice of researching the requirements of any system from users, employees and other
stakeholders (Kurts Alfteche, 1970). These requirements are either functional or non-functional.
4.3.1 Functional Requirements

It defines the function of a system where a function is described based on specifications of

behavior between inputs and outputs (Fulton R Vandermelon, 2017).

1. Adding customer: the veterinary clinic system enables the staff to include new customers
to the system.
2. Record customer's basic data
3. Registration of pet details.
4. search for a pet.
5. Book a time for an appointment.
6. View visit details.
7. Remove medication or procedure from the application.
8. Add medication or a procedure to application.
9. update medication or procedure from the application.
10. track the detailed information of pet, booking, appointment, medicine.
11. doctors can view their patients’ treatment records and details easily

4.3.2 Non -Functional Requirements

The non-functional requirement of farmers vet linkage system include:
1. Flexibility: The system is convenient and flexible to be used.
2. Availability: The system is available all the time.
3. Usability: the system is easy to use by Staff.
4. Maintainability: the system is easy to modify and maintain

4.4 Summary
In this chapter a detailed discussion on the feasibility study will be given and a feasibility report
is attached on the appendix. The Farmers vet linkage system has then been discussed through a
context diagram, and data flow diagram. Moreover, functional and non-functional requirements
of the system have been discussed

APPENDIX A:

FEASIBILITY REPORT FOR A FARMER’S VET LINKAGE SYSTEM AT MERU REGION.

Purpose

The purpose of the feasibility report is to help solve the way on how farmers get to link with the

vets around Meru and help in availing instant vet services so as to help reduce mortality rate and

increase productivity. This report investigated a possible solution to solve the problem.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

SOLUTION

The solution is to develop an online farmer’s vet linkage system which allows farmers to link

with the vets. The solution ensures that instant services are offered by vets to the farmers

depending on availability time range and location. Since farmers will only have to login on the

application and get the vet of their preference.

Economic Feasibility: This is solution provides farmers an environment that is favorable and

more efficient. The estimate cost of installing a farmer’s vet linkage system would be in the price

area between 300,000 to kes500,000 depending on the service provider.

Operational Feasibility: This solution is expected not to change the normal ways for vet linking

with the farmers and will aid in offering instant services.

Technical Feasibility: It is expected that the farmers and vets will need to upgrade to a

smartphone in order to access the application.

Recommendation

After the feasibility study and based on the solution. This solution is the expensive but its viable

solution in offering a solution on the current Farmers vet linkage System problem at Meru

Region.
