1. Purpose
The purpose of this document is to enhance the quality and unity of drawing, which shall be accomplished
by regulation expression of drawings in controlled and precise method.
Unless otherwise agreed with client, this document refers to every drawing produced by JNK.
2. TEKLA 3D Modelling
a. 3D modelling shall be carried out in TEKLA Structures latest Edition (20.1 Release 3)
b. Modeling shall be done at original co-ordinates of structure i.e. at its original location w.r.t.
Northing (Y-co-ordinate): Easting(X-co-ordinate): Elevation (Z-co-ordinate) which will be
provided by concern engineer. (Refer Overall Layout for coordinates)
c. Modelling shall be done in Phases, following phases shall be followed with color coding.

Any new items to be modelled shall be based on confirmation from JNK regarding Phase designation
and color coding.
d. Complete TEKLA model to be submitted along with drawings every week (Every Friday of
Week by 4.pm).
e. Assembly numbering shall be done in following sequence
i. For Panels and Loose members – Starting from First Grid corner to last grid corner.
ii. For Modules – Starting from bottom to top.
iii. For Handrails – Starting from 0 (Zero) degree in clockwise direction.
iv. For Ladders – Starting from bottom and 0 (Zero) degree to top.

All elevation marks should be in Millimeters.

3. Drawing Extraction And Editing


a. Drawings Extracted from TEKLA should not be exploded.
b. Blocks of AutoCAD like Template, Section Detail Marks, Instrument Tags etc Should not be
exploded
c. Scale and Units:
i. All views should be in proper scale. NTS is not permitted at all.
ii. As a rule, the scale described in the title block should be applied for all the views in
drawing. If varying scale is used then scale of main view should be mentioned in
the title block and scale for individual view should be mentioned below respective
views.
iii. Scale for drawings should be at as follows,

e. Layer and Line Type:


i. Ltscale of Line type should be same as scale of drawing.
ii. Every drawing made in Auto CAD (Except drawings extracted from TEKLA) should be
in Layers
iii. They have a different layer name when a color or a line type is not same. If they have
same layer, their color and line type have to be same.
iv. If layers which have same color and line type need to be distinct from each other,
designer need to make a new layer name for better classification.
v. If Designer need to change contents, he should change the layer instead of change in
color or line type. In short, all contents of drawings should be based on layers.

f. North Arrow
i. North arrow should be represented at KEY PLAN location and in MAIN Drawing left top
corner where PLAN views are shown.
ii. North arrow should be represented at KEY PLAN location only where elevation views
are shown in MAIN drawing.

iii. North arrow of assembly drawings should coincide with North arrow direction of
General Arrangement drawing.
iv. Size and Place of North Arrow should be as shown below,

v. Type of North Symbol should be as provided in Client Equipment Layout.


g. Dimension
i. Value of dimension scale should be same as that of drawing scale in principle.
ii. Number of dimensions should be minimized for fabrication. Unnecessary overlap is not
recommended.
iii. Dimension style used in drawing need to be made with scale and should not be
exploded.
iv. In a view dimensions should be given on right side or lower side.
v. If 3 or more dimensions are provided in continuity, then overall dimension should be
provided.

h. Dimension Marking

i. Non scale Dimension should not be exploded, rather Auto Dim should be used and it

should be changed to under Line Test as shown above.
ii. Dimension arrow size and type should be as mentioned above in DIMSTYLE
iii. Elevation marking shall be followed as shown above. Type highlighted by Red box is
preferable.
iv. Field Splice marks shall be as shown in figure above.

i. Section and Detail Marks (For AutoCAD Drawings)
j. Details numbering should be Numeric. eg. 1, 2 , 3, 4….. Etc.
k. Section numbering should be Alphabetic eg. A, B, C, D…. Etc. except for ‘I’ & ‘O’. If number of
alphabets go beyond Z, then further number should start from AA, AB, AC…Etc.
l. Section number and detail numbers cannot be duplicate in the same drawing.
m. Section marks in Plan Drawings should either face UP or LEFT side of drawing. Section marks
in Elevation drawing should either face DOWN or RIGHT side of drawing. This rule should be
followed to the extent possible.
n. Sections and Details should have reference to drawings to indicate the location of Section and
Detail marks.
i. Cross reference should include drawing number and sequence number in both the
drawings, so that the details can related to each other.
ii. When Section or Detail mark and Section or Detail are shown in the same drawing,
then THIS DWG should be mentioned in cross reference.
o. Section Marks

p. If additional section is required to be taken from a Section View, then that section should be
named after the main section name. AA, AB, AC….Etc
q. If a detail is to be taken from section ‘A’, then details should be named as A1, A2, A3 etc….
r. Detail Marks

NOTATION

v. Assembly Numbers/ Notations should be mentioned in between grid lines/ splice marks, below
grid dimensions. It should be located at the same place for all the views in al drawings. It helps
in easy identification of Assembly Notations.

w. JNK MENU LISP & Mark


i. All the marks and Symbols in drawings should be from JNK LISP and made by block
for Unity of drawings.
ii. Marks and Symbols not included in provided LISP or Block should be decided based
on prior consultation.
iii. Beam Symbol
 Designer can use shapes from JNK Menu LISP for H-Beams, channels and
Angles, if some shapes are not mentioned in JNK Lisp, new sizes can be
added.

i. Bolt and Nut symbol from JNK LISP for detail drawing are important. Refer further
section for bolt & Nut detailing representation.

a. Marks & Symbol not included in JNK LISP need to be decided based on prior

x. Bolt & Nut Detailing Philosophy
a. Bolt Holes should be expressed in Circle in Elevation and internal SOLID Hatch in
Section as shown below.

b. Bolt Mark
i. Bolt Mark and Spec. for each portion are used as follows and specification
which is not determined should be discussed prior with engineer.
ii. Bolt Description
 B – High Strength Bolt or Common Bolt
 SB – Stud Bolt
 EB – Expansion Anchor Bolt

 TB – Torque Shear High Strength Bolt.


iii. Nut Description
 N – One (1) Nut
 2N – Two (2) Nut
 4N – Four (4) nut
iv. Washer Description
 W – One (1) Flat Circular Washer
 2W – Two (2) Flat Circular Washers
 WT – One (1) Tapered Washer + One (1) Flat Circular Washer
 2T – Two (2) Tapered Washer.
c. Bolt Length
i. Following Components should be considered for bolt length calculation

4. Additional 5mm above nut
ii. Bolt length should be rounded up to 5 mm length,
For e.g.
58 - 62 mm should be rounded up to 60 mm
63 - 67 mm should be rounded up to 65 mm
68 - 72 mm should be rounded up to 70 mm
iii. Bolt Length is calculated and mentioned in BOM from bottom of head.
iv. All bolts are fully threaded bolts.

4. General Drawing Requirements
a. Line Type and Text Should be same for AutoCAD and PDF output from TEKLA software
b. Location List to be added in TOP LEFT corner of Assembly Drawing. Format Shall be as
mentioned below,

suitability.
n. Dimension pick points should be carefully done in TEKLA to avoid error in dimension
values.

e. For Arch Panels: Pitch should be same on all parallel splice locations.

g. For Header Box: Pitch Should be same for all parallel splice locations
h. For ETS: Pitch should be same for parallel faces.
i. Erection Bolts should be part of attaching assembly.
