Rosemary Is Sprouting the Next Major Hair Care
Trend
Submit
Searches for “rosemary water” are at an all-time high on Google, and
#rosemarywater videos have landed ~105m+ views on TikTok, where creators claim
the concoction helps regrow and strengthen hair.

This isn’t just TikTok hocus-pocus.

There are only two drugs currently approved to treat hair loss — finasteride and
minoxidil — and each work through different mechanisms. Interestingly, though,
clinical trials have shown rosemary extract can actually replicate some effects of
both:

A 2013 study in mice found rosemary extract inhibits testosterone 5α-reductase

(similar to finasteride); the authors concluded that it “is a promising crude drug for
hair growth.”
A 2015 study in humans compared the use of rosemary against minoxidil, finding a
significant increase in hair count of both groups after six months, with no significant
difference in efficacy.

Hims did $94m+ in Q1 of this year by white-labeling various hair-loss and sexual
health drugs (including topical versions of minoxidil and finasteride). So the D2C
market for a natural alternative could be big.

People are preparing these treatments at home, which is obviously both labor-
intensive and imprecise. Make it easy for them by producing a line of natural, high-
quality rosemary hydrolats.

This trend is being driven by women onSubmit

TikTok, but you could focus on the male
market too.

Consider a subscription model, since treatment takes several months, requires daily
use, and the solution isn’t shelf-stable for long.

Real Demand for Synthetic Data

Synthetic data providers (SDPs) are companies that make artificial data used to
train AI models. In addition to cutting the cost of AI training, synthetic data
promises several other benefits including:

Privacy: It removes the need to use real people’s personal data when training AI for
health care, finance, or other applications.
“Twin” Data: Companies can create anonymous synthetic datasets based on their
real-life data, then pool them with competitors for win-win insights.
Diversity: SDPs can manufacture data sets and scenarios that would be near
impossible to re-create at scale in the real world.

Startups in the space have landed a record-setting ~$170m so far this year, and the
industry is expected to grow 10x by 2027.

SDPs are not without controversy. They can create and exacerbate biases in AI, and
the products being built — from surveillance AI to audio deepfakes — pose serious
ethical questions that need to be addressed.

Still, a growing reliance on AI across industries suggests an increased need for

things like:

Data synthesis platforms: Tools that help companies transform their private data
into realistic, anonymized “twin” data sets; e.g., betterdata, Diveplane, and Gretel.
Niche data providers: SDPs offering access to specific training data sets, like Facteus
(consumer spending), Datagen (human faces), and Cognata (simulated
environments for autonomous vehicles).
Tailored AI: Custom AI models trained on synthetic data to meet clients’ unique
needs (e.g., Cvedia and Simerse).

Recent Trends research suggests that spaces like audio search, presence detection,
