Chapter 1 Product Description

1 Product Description
The E1/T1 Interface Card is a software selectable plug-in card. Depending upon manufacturing options
there are Nx E1/T1 ports available, where N=16/32/63TE or 16/32/63E75. The card is hot-pluggable and can
be installed in or removed from an e-DXC chassis when the e-DXC device is powered up.

Note: The 75 ohm E1 card is an E1 card only. It is not configurable as a T1 card.

2 Installation

2.1 Mechanical Installation

The E1/T1 interface card will plug into any tributary slot in the e-DXC chassis. E1/T1 interface cards are hot
swappable.

2.2 Electrical Installation


All electrical connections are on the backplane. The electrical connections are made when the card is firmly
seated into a tributary slot in the e-DXC chassis.

4 E/T1 Setup Procedure


The E1/T1 card can be set up as either E1 or T1. This chapter provides detailed setup instructions.

Please note that Tributary cards must be registered with the e-DXC device or you will not be able to access
their detailed menu screens. The card registration procedure is detailed in Section 4.2 of this manual.

4.1 Menu Tree


Menu tree shown below is for both E1 and T1 Modes.

4.2 Initial Setup and Card Registration


Prior to setting up an E1/T1 Interface Card you must first set up the main e-DXC device. Full instructions for
doing so are found in the e-DXC User’s Manual. After that setup is complete go to the main Controller Menu
for the e-DXC device. A sample screen is shown below.

You must register your E1/T1 cards with the e-DXC device.
Press N to register the unit (ie. register your card).

The following screen will appear. The slot location of any card in the device shows up on the screen.
Choose the command “Card Registration” and press Enter. The model name “E1-75ohm” represents 75ohm
E1 interface, and “E1” represents 120ohm E1 interface. Choose “Card Registration” to start the register
process.

Use the Tab key to scroll in the Tributary slot that your E1/T1 card is plugged into. Press the Enter key.

Note that the model of card will appear. Move the cursor to the Registered Model field and scroll in either the
E1 or T1 setting. Press the Enter key.

If you have other cards to register do it now. Each plug-in interface card must be registered separately.

Change Protection Mode:


You do not need to de-register the card to change the protection mode. Simply use the command “Change
Protection Mode”. You can change the card’s protection mode from NP (without protection) to PRTD (with
protection), or vise-versa.

Card De-registration:
To de-register a card, please activate the command “Card Un-registration”. The setup procedure is similar to
that of “Card registration”.
Note: If you want to change a registered card from E1 toT1 or vice-versa, you must de-register the card and
re-register it again.

Chapter 4 E/T1 Setup Procedure

Scenario 1: Force Switch the Firmware Bank

This procedure applies to all types of E1/T1 cards.

1. If you want to Force Switch the Firmware Bank for E1/T1 cards, you need to use the
spare jumper enclosed with shipping package.
2. You need to pull the E1/T1 card out of Chassis and place the spare jumper in U21
(Jumper ON) location shown in below.

3. Put the card back to Chassis and the card will switch to another Firmware Bank
automatically. For confirmation, you can go to Unit Download Firmware screen to check
the Current Firmware Version Number.
4. You need to pull the E1/T1 card out of Chassis again and remove the jumper out of U21.
5. The process complete.

Note: If you leave the Jumper On in U21, the bank will do the bank switch every time when
the card reset.
