Discovering Our Real Battle

(STUDENT’S HANDOUT)

This course will focus on the role of spiritual warfare in helping us free from the
strongholds that keep us stuck.

To understand the battle, we need to begin with acknowledging that we are in a war.

BATTLE—
• a general encounter between armies, ships of war, or aircraft
• to engage in combat between individuals or armed forces
• to contend with full strength, skill, or resources
• to fight or struggle against

We have to ask ourselves, “Why do we even want to fight?”

Jesus has come and conquered. The war is already won in the heavens.

Matthew 28:18
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me.

Spiritual Warfare is not a magical solution for all of our problems. However, there
are many problems that could be quickly resolved if people simply understood the
basics.

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the
authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realms.

Ephesians 6:12 (CEV)

We are not fighting against humans. We are fighting against forces and authorities
and against rulers of darkness and powers in the spiritual world.

Ephesians 6:12 (NLT)

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and
authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against
evil spirits in the heavenly places.

What should we learn from Ephesians 6:12?

There are “rulers,” “authorities,” “powers of this dark world,” and “spiritual
forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

3. WE MUST __________ OUR BATTLE by “putting on the whole armor of God.”

• What is Satan trying to do in your life?

• How does Satan attack us?

Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be
able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

The command “put on” is a military term.

The “day of evil” refers to those moments of special temptation we all face.

• What comes first into your mind or what do you feel when you hear about
Spiritual Warfare?
• Are you in a spiritual battle right now? In your own personal opinion or
experience, what is Satan trying to do in your life?
