1. What’s your name? Why are you here today?


- My name is Van Duc Tri. I’m 17 years old.
- I’m living at 20/28/6 Ho Dac Di Street, Tay Thanh Ward, Tan Phu District,
HCM City.
- I’m currently in grade 12 at Le Trong Tan High school, Son Ky Ward, Tan
Phu District, HCM City.
- I’m here today to attend the F1Visa interview.

2. How old are you? What’s your job?


- I’m 17 years old.
- I’m currently a grade 12 student at Le Trong Tan High school, class 12A4.
My school is in Son Ky Ward, Tan Phu District, HCM City.

- 3.What are your hobbies?


I have 3 hobbies.
- I have learnt to play the piano for 6 years and have just learnt the guitar by
myself recently. I love contemporary pop music and classical.
- Drawing is one of my hobbies, especially portrait. When I was ten, I took
part in a 3-day training course in portrait by a foreign teacher. However, I
find I can draw fairy well by leaning by my self via youtube.
- I also love taking care of people around me, especially my grandparents
because we have lived with them for 17 years.

4. Do you like traveling? Have you ever been abroad?


- Yes, I do. I love travelling.
- I’ve been to Malaysia when I was 2 years old, so I hardly remember
anythings.
- Recently, Me, my mom and my little brother had a trip to Japan. We’ve
been to Toyama, Osaka, Kyoto. We even tried the Tateyama route which
is the most beautiful route in Japan.
- After all, this trip has changed my mind a lot, I was amazed by the new
culture, people, and lifestyle. Thus, inspired me to live and study in
another country.

5. Have you ever lived away from your parents?


- Yes, I have.
- I had at least 10 summer holidays with my grandparents in Nha Trang City.
- I used to go to the beach every day, jogging, swimming, spotting the train at
a steel bridge near my house.
- During that time, I must take responsibility of myself and my little brother,
taking care of my grandparents as well.
- After every summer, I feel very comfortable to live dependently. That’s why
I amself -confident to decide to study abroad in 4 years in The United State
and live in the multicultural environment.
6. Why don’t your older brother(s)/sister(s) study abroad like you?
- My younger brother is Van Duc Huy, 15 years old, currently is a grade - 9
student, of Truong Chinh Junior High school, class 9A8. His school is in
Ward 12, Tan Binh District, HCM city.
- He is stillyoung, and our parents haven’t plannedhis study abroad until he
finishes high school.

7. Have your parents/ your siblings traveled abroad?

- Yes, we have.
- My dad travelled a lot when he worked for his former company-British
American Tobacco. He had been in Thailand, Mianmar, Singapore, Srilanka,
Campodia.
- My parents took me to Malaysia when I was two. But I was a baby, so I
hardly remember anythings.
- Recently, Me, my mom and my little brother had a trip to Japan. We’ve been
to Toyama, Osaka, Kyoto. We even tried the Tateyama route which is the
most beautiful route in Japan.
- After all, this trip has changed my mind a lot, I was amazed by the new
culture, people, and lifestyle. Thus, inspired me to live and study in another
country.
- We should have travelled more if 3-year of pandamic Covid-19 did not
happen. We love travelled together because that is the happiest moment to
discover and study. It makes me feel confident to study abroad.

8. What grade are you studying in? / What’s your grade?

- I’m currently in grade 12 at Le Trong Tan High school, Son Ky Ward, Tan
Phu District, HCM city.

9. What’s your school’s name? Could you tell me something special about
your school?
- My school’s name is Le Trong Tan. Founded in 2017, it’s located in D5
Street, Son Ky Ward, Tan Phu District - a peaceful area 7.500 m2. There are
104 teachers who are teaching about 1.900 students from 10-12 grade in my
school. My campus is spacious and there are areas for sports activites such
as: football, basketball…

10.Do you do well at school? What is your GPA?

I’m a good student with GPA 7.7. I am the best students in my school but I
am one of the students who always works hard and try my best to complete
my obligation.

11.What are your favorite subjects? And why do you like them?
- My favorite subjects are natural science: maths, chemical, biology, because I
like working with numbers, logical thinking... I want to discover from the
secrets of the vast global to a tiny human being.
- English in particular, foreign language in general is also my favourite
subject. It is very fanstatic to be able to speak a language not my mother
toungue. Besides English, I am trying to learn how to speak German, Korean
by myself via duolingo.
- Because the love for these subjects, I like sudying Nursing in the US.

12.Why did you choose your major in the US nursing school? Do you want to
change that?
- I’ve been living with my grandparents for 17 years. During this time, we’ve
taken care them when they get older and older. Unluckily, my grandpa has
just passed away in his 94 of age for three months. My grandma, who is 83
years old, isn’t in good health condition.
- To me, it is very meaningful to look after the elderly or patients. Because I
am young and strong, I can help them. I can not only have conversation but
also share joys and sorrows with them.
- I love this major as it will be easy to find a job in Vietnam. If I work for
hospitals as: Phap Viet, Vinmec or American intenational hospital, my
income will be high and stable.

So, I don’t intend to change my major. I am decisive to get bachelor’s


degree in nursing in the US. This is my choice and my number one passion.

13.Why do you choose US to study? Why don’t you choose another country to
study?
- Humanity and liberation are the values of The US education which are
different from Vietnam: out of date and flat. I would like to attend and
experience in an education enviroment with such values
- Furthermore, it is not easy to get bachelor’s degree in nursing in a country
like The US requiring strict discipline, great medical ethics. I really want to
overcome the challenge to reach the target: to have The US’s bachelor’s
degree in nursing.

14.Tell me the reasons why you choose this school? / Why don’t you choose
another school to study?
I have chosen this school because of 4 reasons:
- High graduation rate
- Not a very big scale school
- Good take care of its students
- Suitable tuition &fees
15.How can you know about this school? Is there anyone who helped you to
find information about this school?

I knew my school on the Internet, and Mr and Nguyen, our acquaintance,


who has been living in the US over 10 years helped me to get more
information about this school.

16.How can you get the I-20/DS-2019? How did you complete the admission
form?
- I’ve done everything according to the guide of my school through website.
- Besides, I’ve worked directly with the Admission Department via email if I
have any questions or need help. Lukily, they usually reply to me promtly
and enthusiastically which makes me feel confident and comfortable.

17.What will you major in when you study university? /What subjects will you
study at school? Why do you choose that major?

My choice is nursing. I chose it for some reasons:

- I have been living with my grandparents for 17 years. During this time, we
have taken care my parents as they get older. Sadly, my grandpa has just
passed away and my grandma who is 83 years old now is not in good health
condition.
- To me, it is very meaningful to look after the elderly or patients. Because I
am healthful, I can help them. I can also have conversation even share joys
and sorrows with them.
- So, I decided to study nursing, I want to be a qualified and professional
nurse.

18.How long do you want to study in the US?

I’m going to stay in the US for 4 years to get the bachelor’s degree in
nursing. Then, I am going to return to Vietnam to get a job to have
experience and study to get master’s degree if I have chance.

19.Have you paid the program fee? By what way?


Yes, we have. My parents will do that via their bank account.

28.Where will you live in the US? With whom will you stay in the US?

I think I gonna stay in the domitory with friends recommend by my school. I


hope that I will have a chance to share my room with some American
friends so that I can improve my English skills quickly as well as understand
more about American culture.

29.Who will pick you up at the airport upon your arrival?


It takes me about 3h15m from Minneapolis to my school so I plan to go by
bus by myself. The ticket is around 4-19$.

30 .31What difficulties do you think you may encounter in the US?

I know that I must face the language barrier and culture shock. However, I
have prepared how to deal with it.

- Firstly, I have got information about the phases of culture shock, so I will
calm down and let it go gradually.
- Secondly, I will make new friends, join clubs or groups in my college to
improve my English, get on well the new environment as soon as possible.
At the same time, I am going to study hard and play sports.
- Finally, I gonna chat with my family weekly to release the stress.

32.What will you do after your graduation?


After graduation, I am going to return to Vietnam for some reasons:

- I really want to stay with my beloved family because we are attached to each
other. I also want to continue taking care of my grandma. She is now 83
years old.
- Vietnam is in the shortage of qualified personnel trained follow the
international standard. I will be ablle to get a good job at an international or
a large size private hospitals such as: Vinmec, American international
hospital, Phap Viet which are develpoing greatly. And if I work hard, I will
get good and stable income.
- Finally, that I can take my knowledge and experience I had during my
education in the US to serve and help our patients.

33. Nếu có cơ hội việc làm ở Mỹ thì bạn có ở lại hay không?
If I have a chance to stay in the US according to Optional Practical Training,
I should take it in the period allowed by The US Government to learn and
get more international working experience. Then, I am going to come back
home because of some reasons:

- I’d like to stay with my beloved family because we are attached to each
other. I also want to continue taking care of my grandma. She is now 83
years old.
- As far as I know, in Vietnam, my major is in the shortage of qualified
personnel who were trained according to the international standard. I will be
ablle to get a good job at an international or a large size private hospitals
such as: Vinmec, American international hospital, Phap Viet… which are
developing greatly. And if I work hard, I will get good and stable income.
- Finally, I can take my knowledge and experience that I had during my
education in the US to server and help our patients. They are really in need
of my help.

34. Who sponsor you during your study in the US?

My parents oversee my education in the US.

35.What are your parents’ salaries?

- As a director at Hoang Minh Exp, my dad’s income is about


50.000.000 VND/month.
- And as the director of her own new - founded company, my mom’s
income is about 30.000.000 VND/month.

36. Do your families own any other properties?

- Yes, we do.
- We own 2 houses, 2 apartments, and a plot of land.

37. Besides salaries, do your parents have other sources of income?

- Yes, they have.


- That income comes from two apartments for rent. The rent for one
apartment is 10.000.000 VND. The other is available now. My parents are
selecting the most suitable tenant.

38. Do your parents have saving books? How much money does it have? Do
you know the origin of the savings book?
- My parents have three saving books of total 2.800.000.000 VND, equivalent
to about 120.000$.
- I saw them already.

39.What will you do if your parents ran out of money and could not afford
your study well?

I am going to prepare 3 solutions to this case:

- I will find a job under the regulation of my school and try my best for a
scholarship.
- My maternal grand parent and my aunt also promised to support me till the
end if my parents have difficult in finance.
- In the worst case, I will return to Vietnam, looking for a suitable job to
continue studying to fulfill my bachelor’s degree in nursing at a school
offering affordable tuition and fees.

40. How much do you have to pay for your study in the US?

- The expense per academic year of my school is about 26.500 $.


- So, the total for 4 years maybe come up around 110.000$

41.What makes me should grant you a visa according to you?

I think you should grant me a Visa because:


- The first and the only purpose of my journey to the US is to get a bachelor’s
degree in nursing and return to Vienam after graduation.
- I wish to work for one of the top hospitals such as: Vinmec, PhapViet,
American International hospital to finally devote what I have learned to
improve the shortage of qualified personnel and backward of the health
system in my country.
- Our family is always respecting the laws and rules of anywhere we’ve been
to We never try to break them.

42.What will you do if I said that you are qualified for a visa?
- Thank you, Sir/ Madam, for giving me such a precious opportunity.
- I will get it to devote everything to fully complete the nurse training
program in the University that I have chosen.

43.Tell me something about your country.

- We, Vietnamese love living together in our communnity. This is a tradition,


a characteristic. I love travel with my family to visit beautiful landscapes
throught out my country such as: Ha Long, Hue, Ninh Binh or the
Southwestern where nature is extremely charming, the habitants are friendly,
and the food is delicious.
- Of course, these journeys help me understand the difficulties which my
family, my friends and relatives have in. I’d like to make a better change for
all of us. And my desire is to be a medical officer to take care of our patients
and our lonely elderly.

44.Do you know anything about America?

- Yes, I do.
- I took a glance at the “Decleration of Independent the United State “, one
quote that struck me the most “All men are created equal. They are
endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, among these
are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
- Thus, I know “Liberty” is what the US endorses and protect. As a young
man, I always wonder what that “liberty” really is, and I wish I have a
chance to come to the US to get the anwser.

45.Do you have any relatives and friends in the US?

Yes, I have 2 friends.


- The first one is Thuy Tien, 16 years old. She is now the student at Hackett
Catholic Prep High school living in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
- The other is Linh, 17 years old, the student of Cypress Lake High School

46.Have you ever been refused a US visa? Why?


No sir, I haven’t.
