MATT GRAHAM’S PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AUDIT

(For best experience, print this document or edit in PDF software)

Personal development is largely a problem solving affair, and the first and most important
step to becoming the best version of yourself is identifying precisely what is holding you
back. We must identify the problems that need solving before we can go about solving
them. That is the purpose of this free personal development audit.

One of the major keys to proper self-analysis is honesty. You must answer these questions
as honestly as you possibly can. Your job is not to protect your ego or your preconceived
idea of who you are, your job is to craft yourself into the most competent version of you.

THE PYRAMID OF PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

This is the Pyramid of Personal Development. This is the hierarchy of needs, so to speak,
when it comes to becoming the best version of yourself. If you’re not taking care of the
things at the bottom, then either the things at the top aren’t going to happen entirely, or
they’re going to be sitting on a weak foundation. If you approach it backwards, the pyramid
tips over.

We must understand that there is a hierarchy of needs and what those needs are. We are
going to focus on each level of this pyramid in the problem identification process. Be sure
to keep the hierarchy in the back of your head the whole time, and prioritize each problem
according to the hierarchy.

LET’S BREAK DOWN EACH LEVEL…

PHYSICAL HEALTH

Physical fitness is the foundation of personal development. I tell everyone that works with
me in my coaching program: “This is, to some degree, going to be a fitness program”.
That’s how important I believe it is. Without your physical health, nothing else happens. I
don’t care how disciplined you are, how smart you are, how hard you work, if you’re not
alive to achieve your goals, then what’s the point?

MENTAL HEALTH

We are living in a time of mass mental illness. More people than ever are on some
medication, diagnosed with some ailment, and/or seeing a therapist on a weekly basis. I
firmly believe that many of the mental issues we face are connected to our physical
health, which is why physical health sits at the very bottom of this pyramid. However, some
mental health issues are not connected to physical health, so we must also address those.

RELATIONSHIPS

Who you surround yourself with is vital. We’ve all heard the phrase, “You’re most like the 5
people you surround yourself with” , and it’s the most correct cliche in the personal
development space. If you’re surrounding yourself with negativity, it will stick to you like
glue. On the flip side, if you’re surrounded with positivity, support, and love, that is a cheat
code to becoming the best you.

FINANCES

Money matters. Don’t let anyone tell you it doesn’t. We spend a third of our life trading our
time for money, so of course it matters. Money is freedom. Money is power. This is the way
the game is currently set up, so to be the most free and powerful version of ourselves, we
must play the game the way it’s set up. It would be ludicrous to play the game any other
way, unless your objective is to lose.

Now that we understand the Pyramid of Personal

Development, let’s start identifying some problems…
CIRCLE/HIGHLIGHT EVERY STATEMENT THAT APPLIES TO

NOW, ONE AT A TIME, TAKE EACH PROBLEM AND ASK YOURSELF
THIS QUESTION:

“WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT

THIS PROBLEM?”
WRITE DOWN EVERY POSSIBLE ACTION STEP YOU CAN THINK
OF NEXT TO EACH INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM.

GET CREATIVE.

TAKE YOUR TIME.

NO, SERIOUSLY… THINK HARD.

OKAY, TIME TO TAKE ACTION.

By now, you have identified the most pressing issues in your life, and you have a list of
tangible action steps you can take to attempt to solve them.

Now we come to the action point.

Take each action step you’ve listed, and make a to-do list for tomorrow. Do something
about these problems every single day. If you do that, you are going to move closer to your
goals. Even if you fail initially, you will have at least learned a method that doesn’t work,
which will narrow your options down to the one that is going to work.

Failure is necessary. Failure is required.

You have to strike out before you can figure out how to hit a home run, so don’t get
discouraged if the action steps you’ve listed aren’t an immediate home run. Return to this
worksheet, and try again. That’s the game.
