“You the Terrible and yourself You”

Inspired by Ilya Repin’s work “Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan”, this work
presents the aftermath of a battle between oneself. The broken mirror and
cut off hair, symbolise self destruction , and the pose and struck with horror
face, the regret. Melancholy and loneliness is evoked by the piano and its
suggestion of somber musicality, as well as the dark colours of the
uncannily large room. The dyeing flower represents the slow decay of the
inner self and the poster on the wall is a play on the symbol of the mirror,
thus the idea of duality. This work should feel disturbing and unpleasant,
yet comforting and familiar.

“My sweet obsession”

This artwork represents the obsession with a person through the metaphor
of addiction, hence the widely known drugs (the beer, pills, cigarettes etc,).
Contrasting with the dull background, painted with messy strokes, the shiny
metallic and gold like drugs, created of human bodies, stand out. That
contrast represents how a hyper fixation causes us euphoria and delusion,
while the actual world is pathetic and depressing. The accumulated bodies
create a sense of belonging, but the single toothbrush evokes the idea of
living alone. This painting captures the effect of addiction and obsession
through the eyes of the obsessed.
