INTRODUCTION

History is the study of past events, particularly relating to human affairs. It is an

academic discipline that uses a narrative to describe, examine, question, and
analyze past events, and investigate their patterns of cause and effect. Historians
seek knowledge of the past using historical sources such as written documents, oral
accounts, art and material artifacts, and ecological markers.

The word history comes from the Greek word “historia” which means "inquiry".
The first historians were the Greeks, who began to write about their own history in
the 5th century BC.

The study of history has changed a lot over the years. In the past, historians were
more interested in telling stories than in analyzing events. However, in the 19th
century, historians began to use more scientific methods to study the past. This led
to the development of new fields of history, such as social history and economic
history.

Today, history is a broad and diverse field of study. Historians study a wide range
of topics, from the rise and fall of civilizations to the everyday lives of ordinary
people. They use a variety of methods to gather and interpret evidence, including
written documents, oral accounts, and material artifacts.

History is a valuable tool for understanding the present. By studying the past, we
can learn about the forces that have shaped our world. We can also learn from the
mistakes of the past and avoid repeating them.

Here are some of the benefits of studying history:

 History can help us understand the present.

 History can teach us about the forces that have shaped our world.
 History can help us learn from the mistakes of the past.
