Ques: What are the lessons learned and incorporated in the R&D area, and what
should be the logical next steps?

Ans: We tried to strategize our product so that we would be able to capture all three areas
of the market. We placed Bold in low tech, Buddy in high tech, and Baker in between low
tech and high tech in the perceptual map, so that we could capitalize on both segments.
Continuous improvement in the low tech segment for our product Bold is necessary
because it will go out of market as the typical age for a low tech segment product is three
years, but as we can see in the perceptual map, it is at the edge of the low tech segment
market, so if it goes out of the circle, then the product will become old and no one will
buy it.
There needs to be an improvement on the performance and size, and there is a
requirement to decrease the reliability. This will reduce the material cost and increase the
contribution margin.
The next step would be to keep improving the product “Buddy” and also introduce a new
product in R&D because once the buddy product moves into the common section
between the low tech and high tech segments in the perceptual map, the new product that
will come after two years can be moved to the new high tech area.
