"UNDERSTANDING HISTORY & CULTURE

THROUGH ARCHAEOLOGICAL EVIDENCES"
ABOUT STUDENT'S COLLOQUIUM

The Department of AIHC & Archaeology, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Alka
Singh, VCW, Rajghat, is organizing the inaugural Students' Colloquium on May
6th, 2023. The colloquium's selected theme is "Understanding History & Culture
through Archaeological Evidences." The primary goal of this event is to provide an
opportunity for young, aspiring archaeology students to showcase their research and
express their perspectives. It intends to facilitate a critical examination of the subject
matter and foster a deeper understanding of it.

CONCEPT NOTE

Archaeology holds all the keys to understanding who we are and where we come
from
~ Sarah Parcak

Archaeology as a subject plays a significant role in the reconstruction of the

cultural sequences of the human past. The presence and absence of archaeological
evidence are critical since in most of the cases it is required to solidify the facts
presented in other sources of information such as humanities and sciences. Hence
making it a much-cited subject.

Archaeology-the study of the human past through material remains-is closely

connected with history. The essence of archaeology is material
evidence/remains and the challenge is to get them to tell their stories about the
PEOPLE who made and used them. The scope of material remains can range
from small discarded products of human activity such as stone tools to huge
architectures/monuments. It is a key to understanding human behavioural and
cultural changes. As the products of craft traditions and artifacts are rooted in
specific cultural contexts.

In the 1st Student's Colloquium, we invite the students to present their papers
on the masses of archaeological evidence, contributing to a better
understanding of the human past. The main objective is to highlight the
relationship between archaeology and culture intricately.
The paper presentation could be based on the following sub-themes, but not only
restricted:

ARCHAEOLOGY
ETHNOARCHAEOLOGY
EPIGRAPHY
NUMISMATIC
MONUMENT/ARCHITECTURE
PYROTECHNOLOGY
ROCK ART
SCULPTURES
LITERATURE
