Imagine that their house in on fire and they have but
three minutes to save their most valuable possessions.
Write the first ten items they would grab. Remind the students
to be as realistic and honest in their selection.
Think of the items rated 1 to 7. Why are they valuable?
For economic reasons? Sentimental? Social? Occupational?
Share the first 5 valuable possessions they would take from their
house and explain why, for example, “I put important papers first (and
identify the value as practical) because it's hard to spend a lot of time
replacing all my personal records....”

Procedure:
1. Draw the shape of the table where they ate most of their meals when they were between 7 and 12.
2. Draw a number of circles around the table to represent their families. Color each circle to show
feelings about them.
3. If there were other people who played important roles in their lives, draw them just beyond the
table setting and color with an appropriate hue.
4. Make the students color the family tables to represent feelings about their childhood. For a happy
time, a bright yellow; for hurt and bitterness
-patches of red and black.
5. Ask the students to interpret their drawings they must touch on the following:
a. Where they lived during childhood and ate most of their meals.
b. Number of people in the house and their feelings towards them
c. Their feelings about childhood and why?
