role in providing access to power.

literacies.
- In the twenty-first century, literacy skills increasingly reflect technology use and
the abilities necessary to problem-solve, collaborate, and present information
through multi-media. As technology becomes more readily available to all
students, concepts of literacy change.

CHAPTER III
Social Literacy

NAME: COURSE:
DATE:

1. How do teachers educate children of social literacy nowadays? What specific

content and learning experiences are there in the curriculum that develop social
literacy?
- We can educate teachers by telling them that we have a different cultures. Also
we can show them some videos or clip about others or different cultures.
2. How do computer technology and social media affect your social skills and that of
your peers? Cite positive and negative impacts of digital technology to
communication?
POSITIVE
 Speed and Efficiency - Being able to reach customers, co-workers and vendors
quickly helps improve the efficiency of any business operation. Mobile technology
makes it easy to get or to keep contact information in a mobile device. You can
reach out with questions or updates from anywhere.
 Communication Log - Technology has made it easy to keep extended
communication logs. Emails and texts are easily tracked to confirm what was
discussed in previous correspondence. Even phone conversations can be
recorded and logged in digital formats through customer retention management
software.
 Mobile Workers - This means that people can work from home or from anywhere in
the world, and can collaborate with team members via cell phones, internet
resources or video conferencing. This creates employees who are more
productive and happier, and who have greater flexibility in work hours and their
location.

NEGATIVE

 Lack of relationship building - Technology has reduced the amount of face-to-face

interaction or the number of actual telephone conversations that people have. It is
much easier to send a quick text rather than to engage in a phone call. Although
this efficiency is certainly a benefit, there is value to the chit-chat that's now
becoming lost.

 Informal communication - Traditional written correspondence such as letters via

postal mail is usually more professional in format and tone, while email and texting
can show a lower standard of professionalism. This can become a problem if
clients feel that the informal nature is a reflection of actual capability.

3. Make a list of Dos and Don’ts in the school and the workplace in relation to social
literacy. Present it creatively through an infographic.
